As the class enter they are directed to a set of lecture handouts.

"Welcome, kids, today we'll be discussing the Elements of Design.

"The major elements of design are as follows, Point, Line, Form (shape), Texture and Color. We'll be exploring some of these in greater detail as the term progresses, but for now we'll just stick to the basics"

Point

Exactly that, a point. A single mark or grouping of single marks used to draw focus to a certain spot on the page.

Line

A line connects two points. They can be curved, angular, thick, thin, vertical, horizontal or diagonal. Each of these options carries a different visual impact.

Form(shape)

What happens when you close lines and suddenly define an inside and an outside in your work. As with line, various shapes, and the placement and alignment thereof, carry different visual impacts.

Texture

How the work feels, or rather how it looks like it would feel. Smooth, rough, soft, hard, warm, cool.

Color

Red, green, blue, pink, yellow. Different shades carry different emotional connotations.

Raven!

Talk about your teacher behind his back. Pass notes. Plot mayhem.

Angel doodled in the margins of his notebook. Soft curves seemed to be the order of the day.

Raven is working on a caricature of Ororo Munroe. She looks at Angel's doodles and notes that he seems to be thinking of Callisto.

Today Jake is having fun with circles and the colour pink (http://pics.livejournal.com/courier_gavin/pic/000shep8/g62).

Parker blinked, then grinned. "That's way too amusing. Drawn from life?"

"Njet. But around here, I wouldn't be shocked if I did see flying pigs." Jake grinned back.

Parker smirked in agreement, then flipped over her art pad to show a sunset (http://pics.livejournal.com/mparker17/pic/0000abq6/) composed entirely of horizontal lines. "Might as well start simple. Although it would be more accurate with flying monkeys or pigs."

Zero doodled in her notebook in between what passed for notes. Half of them were really song lyrics.

Fred flipped open her sketch book and made a dot to dot house and cloud. (http://pics.livejournal.com/maias_notebook/pic/0006dtk1) connect the dots la la la, connect the dots la la la she sung in her head as she did this.

Sakura doodled on the back of her notebook, scribbled the doodle out, and started again. Doodle. Scribble. Repeat. Finally, she settles for flipping the book open and writing down the margin of one of the pages in messy hiragana -- it seemed she was writing herself a reminder.

Jaye practices finding out what happens when you mix a bunch of different colors.

This class turns her five.

Auto is playing with a shiny green stone. He'll still talk to you though.

"Shiiiiiny." And Parker knows from shiny. "What is it?"

Autolycus fumbled hiding the stone and dropped it on the desk. "Oh, you know just a ornamental paperweight."

The Chronos Stone glowed slightly and looked shiny.

Parker put out a finger to touch it, but stopped short. "Where'd you get it? And what's that writing say?"

"I picked it up in Sparta." Autolycus turned the stone around to look at the writing better. "I'm not sure exactly, I think it says 'Made in Minos' but I could be wrong."

"Hmmmm. If you swing by Minos again, and pick me up one, I'll compensate you," Parker wheedles.

"I'll see what I can do, kid." Not that Autolycus had any idea if he could actually find something else that looked like the Chronos Stone.

Jaye's going to swipe that thing sometime. Just for a day. Just to see what'll happen.

The Chronos Stone looks foward to being stolen by someone whose idea of a fun time doesn't include yodelling.

Jaye wouldn't attempt yodeling if you paid her.

Well, depends on how much you paid her.
