Rita happily pointed her wand at the board, making a list of names appear.

Han Solo

“Students are expected to sign in,” Rita said. As soon as Quinn and Barbossa took their seats, Rita set a pile of writing materials on the former’s desk, and nine pairs of dragonhide gloves, as well as nine tiny nets, on latter’s.

“Boys and girls, it seems you’ve been naughty this week,” Rita said disapprovingly, addressing the whole class. “So until midnight tonight, you’re all going to be staying here. And you’ll be doing punishments to fit the crimes and according to my whims, really. And since there are only two students in here who seemingly did not cause mischief to ear this detention - Mr. Barbossa and Ms. Morgendorffer - they will be my Special Helpers for the day. That means, Special Helpers - if you see someone misbehaving, let me know immediately.”

“Thanks to Mr. Solo, you will all write me a one hundred-word essay on respecting the privacy of the opposite sex. If I am not satisfied with your essay, you will make a better effort. Ms. Morgendorffer, you are in charge of passing out the writing material and collecting it. And boys and girls - I expect neat work.”
“Because of all of you who thought that playing in the water would be fun, I’m going to teach you about the things that actually live in the water.” She indicated three tanks at the front of the room, and lifted the dropcloths off of them. In each one, nettles and grayish-green, slimy plants grew. The students’ attention was more likely to be on the pale green, goblin-like creatures, however.

“I would like you all to harvest as much gillyweed - the stuff that looks like rat tails - out of there before you leave. In groups of three - Mr. Ford, Mr. Sheppard and Mr. Solo together; Ms. Longstocking, Ms. Lang and Ms. Rutledge; and Ms. Morgendorffer, Mr. Barbossa and Mr. Bernadette. Please wait for Mr. Barbossa to hand out your protective gloves and nets.”
“Then we will have lunch. I hope you all like what I’ve provided.”
“After lunch, there will be some beginner's potion-making - you will all be extracting four ounces - that’s approximately a full plant’s worth - of bubotuber pus." Rita pointed to nine slug-like plants on her desk. "You will work alone. Continue to wear your gloves, boys and girls, unless you’d rather like to have boils."
“And once that is finished, you will spend the rest of your time quietly in your seats, doing lines.”

“I will not - I repeat, will not tolerate undue chatter in this detention. And do not forget that I have a wand, whereas none of you do. Anyone who talks out of turn runs the risk of being jinxed or worse. I will not hesitate to full body-bind any of you, much less transfigure you into something unpleasant for the duration of the day.”

She smiled sweetly. “Any questions?”

[ooc: All right kiddies, here’s how it’s going to go:

Comment in all of the threads. RP out what Rita has asked you to do. If you don’t, she will be cranky. If you talk about non-detention stuff, and Rita catches you, she will be cranky. If you talk back, she will be very cranky.

If Rita gets cranky, she will seriously cast a spell on you.

I won’t do anything to actually HARM a single student in here. But you might find yourselves unable to move, turned into a highly unpleasant animal, tickling for no reason at all, and so on. Furthermore, she’ll assign you detention again next week if she has to take to magical measures.

I do expect to see a full 100 word essay.

The grindylows will not bite unless you piss them off. Be careful.

The food is not poisoned. Scout’s honor. :)

The bubotuber pus is your own domain. Get boils, don’t, whatever.

And as for the lines, C&P is your friend. And yes, Rita and I are both OCD enough to check that your character has done it the full 25 times.

Finally - if you don’t know HP canon, please do take advantage of those links. Additionally, you can ping me in the OOC thread, or I *should* be on AIM (beetlewhatbeetle).

Most of all, remember: Rita is not nice. She is not your pal. She is a bitch, and she *will not* hesitate to turn you into a newt. (And you will not get getting better...until I say so, anyway.)

And you won’t be getting out until 3 AM EST. Sorry, guys. Like I said...Rita is a bitch. *shrug* And you know the rules on that - no playing in anything else until that time. And if I catch you? Consequences.

Maia watches both of them..."Why dont we try one of us grabbing the gillyweed and the other two holding down that thing thats swimming around in there?"

Lana is still coughing, but manages to nod. "Sounds good. Who wants to hold and who wants to grab?"

Han, unable to talk clearly, holds up his net.

He points at the girls and makes picking motions.

"You're going to hold them all back by yourself? Maia, why don't you pick and I'll help Han hold them away from you."

Maia looked uneasy "Are you sure? Your ok to do that?"

"Thanks to a lovely thing called HangQuel, I'm a lot better off than say, Shep is." She looks over at him ~~when he arrives~~ sympathetically.

Maia glanced over at Shep ~~when he is there to glance at~~ "Damn how much spiked punch did you guys drink last night?" Maia said securing her gloves again.

"A lot, I think. An awful lot." Lana looks very embarrassed.

~~raspberries them both~~ "I'm okay actually. I skipped breakfast and I'll have a light lunch, but I haven't puked, and I my head is pretty much okay. I'm tired, but that's about it. I learned to hold my liquor a long time ago, ladies."

Shep is however, strangely hypnotized by the bizarre thing in the tank. He's making no move to help steal his weed... he's just watching it, transfixed.

Lana shudders a little at the idea of food. (And she hasn't even *seen* the lunch menu yet.) "I'm glad you're not feeling too bad. AndI'msorryifIdidorsaidanythingstupidorembarrassinglastnight."

Shep shrugged. "You look a little green. How you doing? And as far as I know, I'm the only one who was stupid enough to not-proposition a member of the administration. And then fall on my ass. So you must not have done anything too bad."

"I'm okay. Han gave me a HangQuel to take before I went to sleep. You were already out cold so we couldn't give you one." Lana shook her head. "I didn't even realize the punch was spiked till it was too late. I know, yes, naive, I've already told myself that."

"No, no not-propositioning on my part, though I did apparently tell a number of people that you were mine."

Shep raises an eyebrow at that idea. He isn't sure what to say, so he falls back on his old best friend - wiseassery. "Well, I've always wanted to be adopted."

She grins at him. "It's okay, I don't think I did any irreparable harm. I think it was only Pippi and Pip, so if you'd like to throw me over for one of them they're both here. Though," she says thoughtfully, "I think Pip was interested in me, not you, but I could be completely mistaken."

Han looks at her sternly and shakes his head. He motions as if throwing something over his shoulder and wrapping his arm around something else.

He points at the critters and gives a dismissive "no problem" gesture.

Lana facepalms again, turning bright red, and looks over at Maia. "Okay, so we're *both* collecting and Han will be blocking."

He nods, pleased. The grim look on his face should make on-lookers feel sorry for the grindylow.

He plunges both arms into the tank and grapples with it.

"Go, go" he grunts at the girls, the words badly mangled.

Maia reaches in as fast as she can and starts jerking the gillyweeds up

Lana plunges both gloved hands in, grabbing as much of the gilylweed as she can manage.

The water is cold and the critter is slippery.

"Out out!" he manages, the horn clicking on his teeth, giving him ideas he really shouldn't have.

The grindylow slips his grip and he yanks his arms from the tank.

Maia was out of breath as she holds the dripping wet Gillyweed..."Are you...ok..." She says looking at his arms.

Han nods. He's a little scratched up but not bleeding.

Maia laid the Gillyweed down and looked around for a first aid kit. "We should probably put something on those you think?"

"Bite me, Liberaci," Shep whispers with a grin.
