Rita happily pointed her wand at the board, making a list of names appear.

“Students are expected to sign in,” Rita said. As soon as Quinn and Barbossa took their seats, Rita set a pile of writing materials on the former’s desk, and nine pairs of dragonhide gloves, as well as nine tiny nets, on latter’s.
 
“Boys and girls, it seems you’ve been naughty this week,” Rita said disapprovingly, addressing the whole class. “So until midnight tonight, you’re all going to be staying here. And you’ll be doing punishments to fit the crimes and according to my whims, really. And since there are only two students in here who seemingly did not cause mischief to ear this detention - Mr. Barbossa and Ms. Morgendorffer - they will be my Special Helpers for the day. That means, Special Helpers - if you see someone misbehaving, let me know immediately.”

1. “Thanks to Mr. Solo, you will all write me a one hundred-word essay on respecting the privacy of the opposite sex. If I am not satisfied with your essay, you will make a better effort. Ms. Morgendorffer, you are in charge of passing out the writing material and collecting it. And boys and girls - I expect neat work.”
   
   
2. “Because of all of you who thought that playing in the water would be fun, I’m going to teach you about the things that actually live in the water.” She indicated three tanks at the front of the room, and lifted the dropcloths off of them. In each one, nettles and grayish-green, slimy plants grew. The students’ attention was more likely to be on the pale green, goblin-like creatures, however.
   
   “I would like you all to harvest as much gillyweed - the stuff that looks like rat tails - out of there before you leave. In groups of three - Mr. Ford, Mr. Sheppard and Mr. Solo together; Ms. Longstocking, Ms. Lang and Ms. Rutledge; and Ms. Morgendorffer, Mr. Barbossa and Mr. Bernadette. Please wait for Mr. Barbossa to hand out your protective gloves and nets.”
   
   
3. “Then we will have lunch. I hope you all like what I’ve provided.”
   
   
4. “After lunch, there will be some beginner's potion-making - you will all be extracting four ounces - that’s approximately a full plant’s worth - of bubotuber pus." Rita pointed to nine slug-like plants on her desk. "You will work alone. Continue to wear your gloves, boys and girls, unless you’d rather like to have boils."
   
   
5. “And once that is finished, you will spend the rest of your time quietly in your seats, doing lines.”

“I will not - I repeat, will not tolerate undue chatter in this detention. And do not forget that I have a wand, whereas none of you do. Anyone who talks out of turn runs the risk of being jinxed or worse. I will not hesitate to full body-bind any of you, much less transfigure you into something unpleasant for the duration of the day.”

She smiled sweetly. “Any questions?”


[ooc: All right kiddies, here’s how it’s going to go:

Comment in all of the threads. RP out what Rita has asked you to do. If you don’t, she will be cranky. If you talk about non-detention stuff, and Rita catches you, she will be cranky. If you talk back, she will be very cranky.

If Rita gets cranky, she will seriously cast a spell on you.

I won’t do anything to actually HARM a single student in here. But you might find yourselves unable to move, turned into a highly unpleasant animal, tickling for no reason at all, and so on. Furthermore, she’ll assign you detention again next week if she has to take to magical measures.

I do expect to see a full 100 word essay.

The grindylows will not bite unless you piss them off. Be careful.

The bubotuber pus is your own domain. Get boils, don’t, whatever.

And as for the lines, C&P is your friend. And yes, Rita and I are both OCD enough to check that your character has done it the full 25 times.

Most of all, remember: Rita is not nice. She is not your pal. She is a bitch, and she *will not* hesitate to turn you into a newt. (And you will not get getting better...until I say so, anyway.)

And you won’t be getting out until 3 AM EST. Sorry, guys. Like I said...Rita is a bitch. *shrug* And you know the rules on that - no playing in anything else until that time. And if I catch you? Consequences.

It is very important to respect the privacy of the opposite sex. Everyone has the right to privacy and it can be especially important across gender lines. It would be completely inappropriate to disrobe in front of a member of the opposite sex unless they were into it as well, or unless, well, you were doing something together where nakedness was kind of key and also a lot of fun as it could make them highly uncomfortable. When interacting with members of the opposite sex it is important to be aware of the differences between the sexes which, really are very, very nice differences and can be a whole lot of fun to explore when you have the opportunity, though again, that can also include nakedness and take them into account before doing anything which might result in discomfort discomfort being a relative term and some people actually find that a little discomfort can make the whole experience even more exciting, not that I am suggesting anything about my own experiences in any way as I have yet to explore - but maybe we're straying into the area of 'too much information' - either physical or psychological. It is very important that people all are able to get along well and being able to respect other people's privacy - especially those of the other sex - is a good first step along that path.

The privacy of the opposite sex is important for many reasons. Many of them are moral, ethical, and personal respect reasons. And I believe in personal respect and morals quite highly, even though I’m a little fuzzy on the whole ethics things. And I only believe in personal respect in the sense that I think its okay to prank as long as no real harm is done.

Hence the whole golf cart thing.

Anyway, privacy for the opposite sex is also important for aesth, pretty asthettic MERDE esthétique reasons. Part of the allure of the opposite sex is their mystery. If men knew everything there is to know about women, the chase would not be as hurried. Oh, there still would be a chase, but we would know what was coming. It wouldn’t be nearly exciting.

Respecting the privacy is important because I WAS TAKING A SHOWER WHEN THAT PERVERT CAME INTO THE BATHROOM!!!!! I was in there in a towel!! The only skin I'm showing is what I choose to show in the way of fashionable outfits and accessories, and no one gets to see any more than that without permission! Girls are okay as long as they're not into funny stuff, because I'm cute and they can be jealous like that, I don't mind. But I am not going to be seen as the school ho! We already have a couple of those and their names are NOT Quinn Morgendorffer!

Having been one of the three other sexes, I don’t get the whole fuss. besides, next time I’ll listen at the door like the thief I’m supposed to be. Next time things will be thought out in advance instead of done on the spur of the moment. No trained thief is stupid enough to have walked in if there was running water. Privacy is important, but only on an individual level. Sometimes a person just needs to be alone for a while to think about things. This should be respected. as I learned when Beautiful threw a book at me for barging in The rest of it? Just taboos and nonsense. Modesty is cute, but most folks grow out of it. Someday, Earthers will get over their weird body hang ups and apparent prudery. then they’ll be real fun That said, the girls can keep their bathroom. You couldn’t pay me to do another enter, deface and leave. My kneecaps were in mortal peril.

One should always respect the privacy of others because you do not know when or if your privacy will be invaded. Keeping the fact in mind that people come from the entire universe their customs may be different then yours and so their idea of privacy is different. For instance, Africans in some parts of Africa walk around without their shirts on, women included; but if they were to come to America or England, they would wear proper clothes. Respecting other cultures is the key to respecting a person’s privacy, if you respect one you incidentally will respect the other.

Respecting the privacy of the opposite gender is important because it serves as a baseline for respecting other aspects of peoples lives as well. Learning early in life that privacy is one of the few freedoms you can grant another person, will make the transference of other rights to individuals around you easier in the long run. While it is important to respect the privacy of the opposite sex; respecting the privacy of the same gender is important as well. If you cannot respect an individual's right to privacy then you will not be able to respect any other rights that an individual has.

It is not so much just the privacy of the opposite sex that is important, but the privacy of all folks that should be respected. Gender is not an excuse, only part of what makes up the folks in the issue. The real issue is about respect, a body should be able to keep certain things to themselves if they so choose. A lack of regard for a person's privacy is an indication of other things about a person's personality depending on how it comes out.

One time my Papa knew this Barber Surgeon named "Sven". Sven had no comprehension of the phrase "Doctor/Patient Confidentiality". All day long he would talk about the ailments of his customers. He would talk about them at meal times, at parties, in the market square. He would tell Mr. Slaptyback's goiter to Mrs. Drustufson. He would tell Old Man Biengydo about Mrs. Drustufson's gouty toe. He'd tell anybody who would listen about Old Man Biengydo's "unfortunate French disease". And so on.

Sven didn't respect his patients' right to privacy because he didn't respect his patients. They were just a source of income for him. People to throw expensive treatments at so he could charge for them. And often his patients would die of simple, treatable ailments. Such as getting a bean up one's nose. (And Lord help you if you hurt your shponk in Sven's care.)

Pretty soon, people started traveling far away to find somebody better then Sven, because the cost of travel plus treatment was actually less then it cost for Sven's lousy treatment. And when he died, he was destitute, and everybody was happy.

And that's why you should respect the privacy of others.

Guys should give girls their privacy because…

1. Most girls around here can kick their asses. And will do so with very little provocation.
2. They might see something that will have them thinking with their dic hormones all day. That never ends well for us.
3. You can get detention if you get caught.
4. If you see it by barging in on the girls in the bathroom, it makes the first night together a lot more anti-climatic.
5. It’ll give girls ideas about barging in on guys. And if you’re a grower not a shower, that could be damn embarrassing.
6. In respects to number 5, some girls carry cameras. Others work for the newspaper and still others the radio. And girls have big mouths even if they don’t have access to mass media.

Shep is somewhat afronted and completely surprised. "What? It's not mysoginistic. Mysoginists hate women. I totally respect the women here. They can kick my ass! Have you met Aeryn Sun? And the girls here totally would blab all over the school if they had a reason to embarass someone. Ever listen to the radio? And why does Pip get (Shep imitates Rita's voice, sort of) "Good job Monseir Pip" for bringing up the whole anti-climactic thing and I have to do mine over?" He does start erasing the numbers so it looks lest like a list and more like a paragraph.
