History of Art / Studio Art Combined Studio | Jan 13, Periods 5&6

As the students enter they are directed to pick up another handout.

"Good afternoon kids, I trust you will all learn these rules off by heart, and then hopefully we won't have worry about them ever again.

"Now on with the class."

"Since this is our first studio session, we're going to do a little introductory activity.

"I've paired all you students up. I want all of you to draw your partner's portrait, talk to them while you work, try to get to know them a little. Also try and draw more than the one portrait, the point of this project isn't to create masterpieces.

Pairings:

Angel/Isabel Evans
M Parker/Barbossa
Skank Zero Hopeless-Savage/Lee Adama
Jaye Tyler/Bridge Carson
Kara Thrace/Chiana
Winifred Burkle/Jessica Tate
Stark/Rose Tyler
Sakura Kinomoto/Rory Gilmore
Jake Gavin Jr/Jack Harkness
Raven Darkholme/Alex Krycek
Vala Mal Doran/Yuffie Kisaragi
Xander Harris/Angela Chase

"Most of the Studio students indicated at least some knowledge or interest in sketching, so we'll be using your choice charchols, pencils or inks.

"Just try not to destroy the classroom first time out kids.

"Also Jake Gavin will be holding a small exhibition of his work this Sunday. Attendence is not complusory, but highly advised."

[ooc: Apologies for the lateness of this class.]

[ooc2: OCD threads coming up.]

Fred takes a seat and nervously looks around for Jessica.

Jessica catches sight of her partner and approaches her. "You...must be Winifred, correct? Well I am Jessica Tate and it is wonderful to meet you." She smiles at her new acquaintance and holds out her hand to greet her.

Fred smiled up at the girl and shook her hand "Hi yes, you can call me Fred actually. Its wonderful to meet you as well." Fred kept smiling opening her sketch book. "I'm going to warn you right up front that I am not really great at this, I can draw stick figures with freckles and thats about it." She laughed a little but she was serious. "Now if you were a tree" Fred nodded "I would be all over the tree thing." She laughed nervously, her pencil in hand.

"Well, I do apologize for not being a tree, but unfortunately there is nothing I can do about that really." Jessica laughed a little and smiled as she opened her notebook and took a pencil from her purse. She stared at the blank piece of paper for a moment. "Oh my...its so...blank." Jessica shook her head, not really knowing where to begin.

Fred laughed nervously and starting to draw the general shape of Jessica's head. She went through several sheets of paper Xing them out as she went. Sighing heavily she decided to draw a big circle, she could fill out the chin and cheeks later.

Jessica had absolutely no idea what she was doing, but she wasn't going to let that get her down. She took a deep breath, smiled, and started drawing Fred as best she could...

[ooc - Ah! I'm really sorry about that, but really, don't worry. No apologies needed :)]

Fred worked hard for about a half hour and finally comes up with a circle that resembled a human face, it had eyes a nose and mouth but the ears seemed misplaced. Sighing Fred frowned and flipped it over to show Jessica.

Jessica looks up from her drawing and smiles. "How lovely dear! Its quite clear who has the talent here. Very well done."

Jessica then slowly flips her pad over to show Fred. Drawn on the page is a large house and eight stick figures. "You see...this is my home, and these are members of my family," Jessica says, pointing with her pencil. "That is me," she says, pointing to one of the figures, "the one with the smile that couldn't quite fit within the circle of the face. See? Anyway, I just did this to warm up..." Jessica says with a grin, then flips to the next page.

"Ta dah!" On the page was a drawing that looked somewhat like Fred. Jessica had spent the most time on her eyes. They looked real. Less time had been spent on the rest of the features, which were also too small in relation to the eyes.
