"Please study the worksheets I am handing out now. There will possibly be a quiz next week before our first lab. The possibility is almost as certain as George W. Bush's ability to abuse the English language."

"Biology is not one science -- it is dozens of different sciences, each with its own set of tools and techniques, theories and questions, puzzles and paradigms. Here are some examples of biological sciences:

* Biochemistry: biological molecules and their interactions; metabolism
* Microbiology: bacteria, viruses, and other microscopic organisms, and their interactions with other organisms
* Botany: plant structure and functions
* Cytology: cell structures and their functions
* Physiology: functions of tissues, organs and organ systems, such as the muscular system, the nervous system, etc.
* Genetics: the mechanisms of heredity, including its molecular machinery (DNA) and its observable consequences (e.g., genetic diseases).
* Evolution: the mechanisms by which populations change over time
* Ecology: the interactions of organisms with each other and their environments.

Homework: Look up one theory of evolution and write a brief summary.

"I think I'll keep you," she says with a quirked grin, getting her own set of chopsticks.

"How was class?"

"Not until later this afternoon, actually. Tuesdays and Thursdays are my light days," he says, handing her a container of szechuan vegetables as he grabs her a paper plate from the bag, and stealing a spring roll for himself.

"I've only my forensics class tomorrow at one. Fridays are good days." She digs in with a chopsticks skill the mun can only envy.

"Speaking of, I'm going to reschedule my treatments for Fridays after class. My office hours are now on Fridays, and I don't want to vomit on any of my students.

Well, there are a few..." he says, shaking his head, but a slight smile lingers on his face from watching her eat with enthusiasm, and he grabs a pea pod from her plate with his fingers.

"Worse comes to worst, send your students to your TAs," she says with amusement, stealing a mini-corn from his plate.

"I could do that," he says thoughtfully, before a slightly wicked smile crosses his face.

They sit in silence for a minute as each chews on their food, Grissom shoveling himself out some lo mein.

"How are you doing today?"

"Fine. I heard about the detention lottery. That should prove interesting."

He notices her switch topics, but says nothing about it for now.

"It's an interesting approach to discipline in an academic setting, I'll give them that."

After a moment, she flicks the switch to mute the sound feed in her classroom.

"I'm pissed with Maia."

"What happened?"

"I made some inquiries into the pool incident. She was involved--but that's not why I'm mad. She was apparently skinny dipping with Sawyer not a few hours after breaking down in my office."

She shakes her head, honestly furious. "She tells me she's terrified of him, and then does that?"

"She's obviously a very confused young woman," Grissom says slowly.

"I don't understand a lot of the situation, if what I've overheard and what we've been told is accurate. It doesn't make a lot of sense, on several levels. I don't know how Maia's... special skills, didn't help her avoid injury, or knowing not to befriend that type of man. And I had thought she was in a relationship with another girl, but if...

Coupled with the seemingly random outbursts and emotional control issues, and the behavior patterns... I don't know what to think."

"Yeah," she says with a sigh, eating her lo mein moodily. "I know."

"But it's okay to be angry," he says in a rather matter-of-fact tone, but giving her a sympathetic look. "It was foolish and dangerous behavior, and she... she knows you. She should have known better than to put you in the position she did in the first place, and then she disrespected you again by acting so flippantly about something that caused you a lot of pain. I'd be just as upset, Sara."

She sighs. "Thank you, Gil. I was mainly just trying to concentrate on not blowing up in class. I appreciate the support."

"I can understand that. I have the boy in my class later today. I'm going to refrain from leaving assassin bugs on his chair, but it won't be easy."

He pushes some food around his plate. "You'll be fine. If she wants to talk, schedule an appointment with her later, when you've had the chance to calm down."

"And if you need me, I'll be in the building Okay?."

"Okay." She watches his movement. "Not hungry anymore?"

"Sore throat," he shrugs. "Same as usual. I thought I bought soup, but I must have forgot. I can make something later when I get home."

"I'll be home before you -- I'll start a pot of chicken soup for you," she offers.

"Or make it vegetable soup, and you could have some as well," he says, quirking up an eyebrow.

"I was going to do that, too," she says with a smirk.

"Well, okay then," he smirks right back.

She looks at the clock and sighs. "Class in 10 minutes. It'd be bad form for me to skip, wouldn't it?"

"You've never skipped a day of work or school in your life," he says, giving her the 'who-you-foolin' look.

"And save your hooky day for when I can take one too. We could go to the beach," he says not at all suggestively.

"I could learn," she says sulkily before perking up at his suggestion. "Sounds nice--sometime in March or April probably."

"Whenever it's warm enough to get you in a bathing suit," he says in a tone that could also be used for reading the phone book, not looking up as he gathers their trash. He's dangerously close to smirking, however.

"I should probably get some new bikinis," she comments casually.

"Enjoy your class."

Grissom grabs the bag with the leftovers, figuring he'll pop it in his office fridge, and Lorelai or his assistants might eat them later, because Sara never will.

"Well, now I'm going to have a slightly more difficult time getting through it."

He turns around at the door on his way out, and winks.

"I have complete confidence in your abilities." Smirk.

He shakes his head.

"Don't mind me, I'm just going to go to Sex class now."

He seriously consider groaning out load, but doesn't know about that pesky audio feed, so he refrains.

"Take notes," she says, laughing outright.
