Mathematics: All Classes: Wednesday: 11.1.6: 1. Period

"Welcome to math class!" Charlie beamed at his new class. "It is all small classes this year, so I'm hoping we'll get much work done. We're going to start easy though. All I want you to do for today is tell me your name, your grade and favorite number and why." He pointed towards the take-out chinese on the small table by the wall. There was also coffee, tea and juice on the table. "Please help yourself to some breakfast, if you want."

ooc:
- please post within a 24 hour period from my post, to get it counted.
- just signing in will give you a C-, but where's the fun in that?
- I am not a math genius.
- Writing that you attempted the task/completed the task/etc is quite okay, but actually attempting it will kick your grade up.
- When I give you essays, c&p is usually fine.
- My AIM is jakeycharliew and I'm nearly always on.
- feel free to babble in class, but keep it in your group.

ETA: 'cause I'm a dumbass
Rules:
Two missed classes in succession without valid excuse = detention.
Failure to attend detention = you're kicked out of the class.
Failure to attend class for four consecutive classes = you're kicked out.

Excuse can be ooc (mark the voicemail thus), but IC is prefered. If I have no excuse by Sunday, you're in detention or kicked out, depending)

"I'm Cameron Mitchell. I'm a junior. My favourite number would be 9, because it's cool and it isn't 10 and when you turn it around you get a 6."

Cameron nodded. "It leaves room for some variation."

Molly gives a small wave to Cam, happy that they have a class together after all.

Cameron grins and waves back. After his explanation, he takes a seat near her and whispers, "I hope you're good at this because I completely suck."

Molly shrugged. "I haven't been in school for three years. I'll be happy if I understand what he's talking about." She grinned. "Thanks for yesterday, by the way. The note, I mean. You made me feel less stupid."

"It's nice to know my own embarrassement ended up doing some good after all," he chuckled and wondered if he'd heard her right. "You haven't been to school for three years?"

She shook her head. "Nope. Ran away to fight bad guys with some friends after our parents died." It wasn't the whole truth, but it was good enough. "I only came here after the rest of my friends all went off to college."

Cameron nods even if he doesn't understand it all, but the middle of class is hardly a place to ask more about it. "It's a good place to come. Definitely better than some college."

Molly nods emphatically. "I miss my friends, but I agree that this school is better than some boring college." She grinned. "Now all I have to do is not flunk out."

Cameron waved a hand. "If I can get through, I'm sure you'll be fine."

"I'm Kiki Takayama, I'm a sophomore. I guess my favorite number would be 4. It's twice 2, and 2 squared at the same time, which just kind of amuses me."

"I'm Victor Borkowski, and I'm a freshman. I think my favorite number is 21, because when you write it backwards it's 12, and that number is pretty lucky for me, but my luck is twisted sometimes, so it just works out that way, I guess."

"Pip Bernadette, freshman, and thirteen, because it's supposed to be unlucky, but I consider it my lucky number. I like bucking trends."

"I'm Pippi Longstocking, I'm a Freshman... And I guess my favorite number is..." she bites her lip. "Pie." she concluded.

"My friend Annika told me about Pie. Firstly, I like that it has its own symbol and she said it had something to do with circles. Which makes sense, because who ever heard of a square pie?"

Pippi beemed.

"Thank you, I like it too."

"I'm Molly Hayes, I'm a freshman, and I guess my favorite number is 5 because when I am counting lots of things, I tend to group them in fives." She shrugged.

Re: Beginners

[identity profile] bruiser-in-pink.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Molly shruged. "Maybe because when I glance at a group of... things... whatevers, I can tell how many are in the group if it is five or less. If it is more than that, even only six, I have to count them to be sure."

She shrugged again. "So, when I'm counting a lot of things, I break them up into groups of fives and then just count the groups. Plus, it is easy to multiply by five."
