"Good afternoon, and welcome to Introduction to Archaeology. I'm Dr. Jackson, and whilst I taught specific eras of archaeology last semester, this will be my first class that's going to be looking at archaeology as a whole.

Today I just want to get to know a bit about you. We're a small class, unless you can persuade others to add it, so that shouldn't take long. Then I want to toss around the idea of archaeology, and also to know if you've got any specific periods or places you think you might like to study, because that part of the syllabus isn't completely finalized yet.

I'm also looking for a TA, so if you're interested, talk to me after class.

Oh. And one last thing. Archaeology is A-R-C-H-A-E-O-L-O-G-Y. It's a common mistake, but as you're studying it, knowing how to spell it is good ~~and much less embarrassing when you hand things in~~.

[[Your final grade will be reflecting participation. Obviously if RL happens, then that's not your fault and a simple X was here and did Y will do. But I won't take that every lesson. Of course, you don't need to actually write the essays that he sets, but something would be nice.

I'm in GMT (mostly), so might not be around to discuss things with in class, but you can always talk with each other. I'll respond when I can. Monday's class will close just before I post Wednesday's class, and Wednesday's class will close around midday (GMT) on Saturday.

Blair leaned over. "Hey, have we met? I've met so many people that my hand is getting chapped from shaking." He grinned. "How're you liking school so far?"

Molly grinned at Blair. "No, we haven't met yet. I've only met one other freshman, that I know of, so far and she is my roommate. I was beginning to wonder if there were any others." She grinned again. "This place is great," she said with quiet enthusiasm. "Did you know that they have a real superhero teaching here?"

"Isn't it?" It's full of so many interesting people and..and..it's just great!" Blair bounced happily.

Then he lowered his voice and whispered. "Are you going to that freshman thing tonight?"

Molly grinned and nodded at his enthusiasm. She may have started bouncing a little too.

She leaned toward him conspiratorially and nodded. "It's being organized by my roommate. It might go bad for me if I didn't. She's trying to make friends with the gremlins," she whispered back.

"You room with Pippi? And she's trying to make friends with the gremlins? I don't think that's a great idea." Blair shuddered. "They bit my roommate and and he thought he was this mean girl. Freaky."

Blair bounced. "I can't wait. I don't really care about the politics as much as getting to meet everyone and hang out." Blair bounced higher in his chair. "Oh! And pizza!"

"Yup. Pippi. I'm not so sure how good an idea it is either, but she has ideas," Molly shrugged. "Weird. Your roommate thought he was a girl? I didn't know they did that. I just heard they were venomous and that I should stay away from them."

She grinned again. "Yeah, I don't care about politics either. It'll be nice to meet my the other freshman since I haven't yet." She giggled quietly. "Yay, pizza!"

"Yeah!" Blair nodded and bounced. "He thought that he was this one girl and she thought she was him and she ended up sleeping in our room and boy, was she grumpy in the morning!"

Blair bounced happily. "I think we should have more school spirit or something. We should be like 'Yay, Freshman!' instead of yay, pizza." Blair's stomach rumbled a bit and he laughed. "Maybe not."

Molly snickered into her hand. "I'll bet she was. That's actually pretty funny."

She giggled when his stomach rumbled. "'Yay, pizza!' is so much easier than 'Yay, Freshmen!' though. I mean, we've been here less than a week. This school is really cool so far, but these things take time." She tilted her head and gave a definitive nod.

"That's true, man, totally. We have to have an attachment to the freshman class. Like a bonding experience or something. Maybe we should do that at our party tonight!" Blair bounced
