Sex Cultures: 6th Period

"Welcome to class, please consult the roster to confirm your enrollment and take a seat.

My name is Dr. Grissom, and this is Special Topics: Sex Cultures.

Now, I am going to clarify right away what this class is, and is not. It is NOT a Sexual Education course. If you do not know the basic mechanics of intercourse, ask Cally to borrow the book she got for Christmas I suggest... doing your own research on the topic as you see fit.

While this class will not study sex as a biological function, it will study its cultural function. We will be discussing issues of sexuality, gender, and some sexual activities and social groups that may be offensive to some. If you think you will have a problem maintaining professionalism in this class, or respecting your fellow students and their backgrounds and beliefs, I will eagerly sign a Drop Form for you today.

Now, moving on, I'd like to take this class period and have you all introduce yourselves. Also, I'd like to hear why you enrolled in this class. And be honest. I think you'll be surprised that you can't blow my mind, no matter how hard you try by the level of acceptance you will receive from your classmates and instructor, and we should not waste time with false information."

Homework: Although this is not a Sex Ed course, I feel that it is prudent for us to spend the first real class period understanding Safe Sex. I would like you to take a quiz before Thursday, and although I won't ask you for your results, I want you to think about why you believe you scored the way you did. Shep comes in and waves to Dr. Grissom. Just to be on the safe side, he drops off a small package of Oreos. After yesterday, he thought it couldn't hurt to be prepared.

As directed Shep introduced himself. "Hi I'm Shep (he's now skipping the explanation) and I'm here because OMG the number of hot alien chicks that have hit on me because well... if anything will keep a guy interested and on topic... this will be it." He shrugs. He hadn't gone all meta on his schedule. He'd signed up for things that sounded interesting and wouldn't get him killed for trying to be in two places at one time.

While waiting for the others to come in, he takes the quiz. He gets all three of the stats questions wrong, but all six of the more practical questions right. He figures that's a good place to start. At least he wouldn't be catching anything, passing anything or creating anyone.

Pip enters the room and nods to the Professor.

"Hi, I'm Pip Bernadette, one of the new students. I entered this class becausee I was raised by a bunch of soldiers, so I know a lot about war and I thought it might be a good idea to learn a little about love. That and, ya know, it's a class about sex. I figured it'd be nice to have a class I look forward to every week."

He takes a seat and goes through the test. He gets most of the practical questions right, but because he doesn't have a lot of experience in stable schooling, mostly guesses on the stastistical ones, especially those involving school.

Han signs in. "I'm Han Solo. I signed up because every flamin' time I turn around I'm bumping up against some weird earther sex taboo. Might as well figure out what I'm doing wrong."

Han procedes to fail the quiz miserably, having never heard of most of the STDs, considers the first question's 89% far too low, and the 2% on #5 far too high. "Backward damn planet," he mutters as he turns it in.

"Hi," Cally says, chewing on her bottom lip a little. "I probably have a lot to learn when it comes to the subject... Okay, I probably have a ton to learn when it comes to the subject, cause as Doctor Grissom said, this isn't about having sex, but, like, the stuff about it and stuff. Which I have almost no exposure to. I mean, the other stuff part, not the, erm... having sex part." Cally scratches the back of her neck nervously.

"So yeah, I came from a really strict household that wouldn't even let the word sex be uttered, let alone be discussed or anything. So, this is my golden opportunity to actually, like, discuss it!"

*DEATH walks in, wearing his standard black robes, deciding to go for professional the first day of class. He is carrying a kitten with him, wearing a black bow tie. He sets the kitten on the desk and takes a seat, exuding an overwhelming sense of dread and purpose. It is possible that this is something DEATH considers a daunting subject.*

"Well, that's assuming you got to orgasm before you died. That'd be like the ultimate cock-block, if you died right before release." He shakes his head. "I haven't actually met the new principal yet. But I believe him to be a very scary man."
