Biology (5th Period) / Chemistry (4th Period)

Biology
"Good morning, everyone. Please take your seats while I pass out the syllabus and lab manuals. Before you leave, please take your textbook with you and begin reading chapter one."

Week 1/2. Setting the Stage
- The unity that underlies diversity
- Science as an organized, accessible manifestation of human curiosity

Week 3/4. Patterns:
- The core of a biology course:the unifying principles that underlie the fascinating diversity of life.
- Science as an organized, accessible manifestation of human curiosity.

Week 5/6. Energy:
- How living creatures transform energy
- How energy flows through organisms and through communities.

Week 7/8. Information:
- How the four-letter language of DNA spells out instructions for building millions of life forms.
**Field trip to the Body Farm**

Week 9/10. Machinery:
- How DNA's instructions are translated into molecules of RNA and then translated into proteins.

Week 11/12. Feedback:
- Homeostasis: how cells, organisms and communities regulate
internal environments.

Week 13/14. Community:
- How a cell diversifies into communities of specialized cells, organs, system feedback loops, and how individuals interact and organize.

Week 15/16. Evolution:
- How the river of DNA information flows across generations
- How the information of DNA is sifted and sorted by cells, and environments.

Week 17. Human Anatomy/Review
-Brief overview of human anatomy.
-Review for final exam.

Week 18. Final Exam/Experiment

"Also, please make note of the class rules. This course will be both lecture and lab intensive. Consequently, three consecutive unexcused absences will result in detention. This is your first and only warning."

Izzie signs in and looks around. It would appear she's the only student in this section. "Umm...are we still going to have a class?" Izzie asks. "I'd understand if you want to cancel this section. If you do that, though, can I still go on that field trip I've been hearing about? To the body farm?"

Maia came in and sat down after putting a phone number (http://www.livejournal.com/users/maias_notebook/25112.html?mode=reply) on the board in case anyone had a simple question to ask the T.A.

Mac signs in collecting a syllabus and making a note of the phone number on the board, just in case.

Sawyer arrives. Takes the papers and takes a seat near the back. He's always enjoyed Sara's classes. So yay for him.

Maia glanced at Sawyer enter the room, she frowned slightly as he took his seat.

Seeing Maia's look, he huffs and looks away from her, trying to concentrate on his paper infront of him. Christ, everywhere he was she was there.

Maia's hand reached up involuntarily to her cheek. She suppressed a shiver and continued to write swallowing hard.

Nadia manages to duck in just before the bell. She signs in, jots down the phone number on the board, and glances over the syllabus and the class rules.

Eventually, her head thumps down on her desk and gives herself a very strong mental note not to doodle.
