Studio Art | January 10th - Period 7

As each student enters the room they are directed to pick up a handout and take a seat.

"Okay kids, welcome to Studio Art. I'm Autolycus ~~the King of Thieves~~, your new Art Professor.

"Judging by some of the stories I've been hearing about your last art teacher, this subject was considered a bit of joke. I'm here to tell you that, that's no longer the case. Anyone who signed up for this subject expecting an easy A, is advised to either change their minds or to come see me after class to sign their drop slip.

"Now that that's over and done with, I'll tell you what you signed up for. Each week in this period we'll be discussing some of the theory behind how to make, for lack of a better term, 'Good Art'. You'll have an opportunity to put this information into practice during our studio sessions as well as a number of small, out of class assignments, but more about that on Friday.

"You have two tasks today. One, introduce yourself to your fellow classmates, tell us a little bit about yourself and why you decided to take this subject. Two, I would like a list of all media that you have either have proficiency in, or would like to learn, and for the love of the gods, please mark which is which.

"Unlike your classmates in History of Art, you don't have an actual homework assignment, however I would like you to do some reading on basic design principles."

[ooc: Here's the deal. Just posting "x signs in and listens to lecture." will not get you participation credits. Interact. Discuss the subject with Auto, or your fellow students. ~~Have mildly wacky hijinks.~~ You'll basically have until Thursday night/Friday morning to do so.]

Jake signs in and blinks at new art teacher who looks oddly like old art teacher...

Jaye signs in. She loves afternoon classes.

Fred signed in Winnifred Burkle (you can call me Fred) on the sign in sheet and took her seat after grabbing a handout.

Kara signs in.

Angel signs in.

Parker signs in, then takes her seat.

Zero signs in (with her full name, because why not?) and takes a seat next to Parker.

Sakura signs in, and takes an open seat.

Mystique signs in and finds a seat where she can see everything.

Stark signs in, picks up a handout, and takes a seat.

"Hi. I'm Jaye and I'm here because Professor Car seemed weird but cool." She considers this. "Wow, that makes me a whore for classes, huh? Weird."

"Hi, I'm Jake and I like drawing ~~half-nekkid people~~, and I thought this would be a nice opportunity to get to do that."

"Hi I'm Winnifred Burkle, well Fred actually. I um, well I can't draw very well so I thought maybe this class would help me out."

"I'm Kara and it's about time this school had a decent art class."

Angel makes a small noise of agreement with Kara. He then scribbles something down on a piece of paper and tosses it at her when the teacher's not looking:

Nice job in self-defense yesterday.

"Angel. I - uh - really enjoy drawing. And going to museums to look at art. I thought this class would be a good way to ~~get course credit for something I do as a hobby anyway~~ get some practice in, learn new techniques, and really hone my eye."

Okay so maybe sometimes he used Angelus's amazing bullshit techniques. That couldn't be totally evil, right?

"Hi, I'm Parker, and--" I totally wasn't looking for an easy A, no "--I like art, but I don't know a great deal about how it's created. This sounded like fun, too."

Hi, I'm Zero, and my brother is an artist, so I figured I might, y'know, learn something.

"Hi, I'm Sakura... and I thought it'd be good to take an art class as a... sort of aesthetic freedom. I've never been real talented in art, either... so I figured taking a class on it might help."

"I like to draw, and I want to learn how to do a better job."

"I'm Stark. I'm here because I, I want to be better at making art."

Jaye takes the time to doodle a large number of stick figures on a piece of notebook paper. She's not going to explain that it's an artistic, non-anatomically correct recreation of the naked party. "Tah dah!" she says, because this is totally her medium.

"I mostly draw and paint with acrylics."

Can do: Drawing and sketching. Favorite medium is charcoal pencils.

Would like to learn: Working with clay, sculpture.

Can do: basic sketches of room layouts, fashion designs

Want to learn: sculpture, jewelry making, better drawing techniques

Sakura ponders for a moment before scribbling something onto a piece of paper to hand in. "Willing to take up anything, although so far watercolour seems to be my strongpoint."
