Multi-Disciplinary Self Defense, 7th Period

Duncan stands at the front of the classroom. He looks much more serious than has been usual for gym class. He seems already stretched out and limber. Large mats have been lain out on the floor. Several punching bags have been added. A trunk in one corner holds padded safety gear, including helmets.

“Okay, first things first. I’ll read off the class roster, and you raise your hand when I say your name. Angel. Vala Mal Doran. James Ford. Susan Ivanova. Jack Harkness. Cameron Mitchell. Han Solo. Susan Sto Helit. Buffy Summers. Kara Thrace .”

After that is done, he stands at the front of the group. “I want you to take a look through the safety gear. Pick helmets and padding, both for close fighting and fencing. Also, a glove for you to trade off taking punches. Make sure these things fit. If they don’t, I’ll see about ordering new ones once we have you measured. Everybody needs these. I don’t care how good you are, make sure you have fitting ones.” He waits for everyone to choose their gear.

“These go in a locker. Within reasonable limits, I want you to care for your gear. If you need repairs, though, talk to me.”

"Attendance is required. You can't learn if you aren't here *regularly*. If you aren't going to be here, don't waste my time and yours. Detention will be assessed for every unexcused absence."

“For this class, we go a unit at a time, starting with hand to hand. We’ll do a bit of fencing later in the semester, and knife fighting, provided people are interested, with practice weapons.”

“First part of the class goes over technique. Second part is open sparring. If you like, you can stay on late for the second part to go longer. The TA position is still open. If you are interested, talk to me after class. I’ll select one or two TAs depending on the skill levels of those applying.”

“Start off with stretching and warming up. If you have your own routine for that, I want to see it. If you don’t, raise a hand.”

OOC: Please note that I have a stiff schedule, and I understand that you might also. I leave posts open for at least two days for attendance.

It connects and Cameron winces slightly as he's still a bit bruised there.

"Do you kick too?" He asks as he takes a step back, looking for an opening. He doesn't wait for an answer and moves in again for a series of jabs to Sawyer's hands, followed by punch to Sawyer's left shoulder.

Okay, so, Sawyer had a street fighter technique and this kid was good at what he did. He blocks the jabs with his hands, his arms tight over his face, just in case; as the the boy threw a punch to his shoulder, he partially blocked that, but his shoulder ended up throbbing anyways.

Cameron falls back and keeps his guard up. This really is different from fighting Aeryn.

"I'm just asking because I didn't know Parker does kickboxing and she caught me completely by surprise. Although I'm more likely to end up on my ass than get in a decent kick," he explains as he keeps an eye on Sawyer, expecting him to get in the next punch.

As Cameron talks, Sawyer moves around a bit, until his leg comes up to pop the other boy right in the back of the leg, "I kick." a smug smile, not a cocky one just one of small pride that he had with his fighting skills.

The kick is unexpected and Cameron sags through his knee. He's not one to sit still, though, and he strikes out with his elbow at Sawyer's stomach.

"Good to know," he replies as he jumps back to his feet and raises his hands again.

That hit to the stomach, takes the breath out of Sawyer for a small moment before he gains back his composure; he bounces around Cameron before going for the boy's right arm with a tight fist punch.

Cameron tries to block the punch, but it still ends up stinging as it connects with his arm. It does bring him closer to Sawyer and he kicks out at Sawyer's hip.

Sawyer could do this all day long, he really could, especially with someone like Cameron, since he wasn't hellbent on kicking Sawyer's ass. Sawyer turned his hip slightly, so that Cameron's kick just barely touched him, he was learning something new every minute.

Getting his two feet back on the ground, and grateful that he was getting a bit better at the whole thing, Cameron feigns a punch with his left but really strikes out with his right to Sawyer's side.

"Ah, shit!" Sawyer cackles as he's hit on his side, he really shouldn't believe anything when Cameron acts like he's going to do something with a bit of hesitation.

He grabs his side, rubbing it lightly for a few moments before bringing his hands back up, he makes a swing at Cameron's stomach quickly.

Cameron lowers his arm, blocking the brunt of the shot but still staggering back. Not to be outdone, he moves right back in and hits at Sawyer's shoulder while trying to make a swipe for his legs.

Huffing, Sawyer steps back as Cameron swipes for his legs, the hit going to his shoulder just before he staggers backwards. His fist balls up as he jogs a bit forward, throwing a punch at Camerons right side again.

Cameron dodges sideways and gets in his own punc at Sawyer's side, then jumps back to bring some distance between them. "Not bad," he says, out of breath.

Breathing heavily himself, Sawyer nods and holds out hand, "Good fight, man. Very good." he laughs slightly as he clutches his side with feign hurt.

Cameron grins. "It's a start anyway," he says and looks around for MacLeod.

Sawyer wipes the sweat off his forehead as he waits for MacLeod as well.
