Returning students to the Celtic Studies classroom will find that it hadn't changed over the break. Newcomers will find a smallish classroom with a few rows of individual desks, perfectly spaced for teacher-pacing and test-taking intimidation. A large blackboard is at the front of the room, newly washed. The walls are hung with various posters, almost all in Gaelic, and a large map of the British Isles, also in Gaelic. A rather battered metal filing cabinet is at the front in one corner, and a large teacher's desk is between the blackboard and the students. The final addition is a large stuffed moose hanging over the blackboard, looking innocuous.

Camulus waits for the class to fill up before leaning against the desk, his arms folded. No tittering at the kilt. This is a manly kilt. The kind of kilt that's really just ten yards of wool, making it the most efficient item of clothing because it can be a sleeping bag, tent, or roof. Besides, one would never titter in the face of your god.

"I am Camulus," he announces, his voice hollow and echoey. He may or may not be laying it on a bit thick for his new students. "You have chosen to study my once-great empire, now reduced to military pipes, bright plaids, and souvenier trinkets. The Celtic civilisation once stretched from the Middle East to the British Isles. Celts sacked Greece and Rome, brought art and culture and ironworking to most of Europe. But, more impressively, the Celts survived. The Gaelteacht (Gale-tech) now comprises only Scotland, Ireland, and a small part of North America - Cape Breton in Alba Nuadh (Alabah Nu-ag). Nova Scotia.

"In this class, you will learn not only the literature and legends of the Celts, but the basics of what is called Q-Gaelic, Celtic culture, a small bit of history, and even, if we have time, modern cooking, music, and pop culture. We have quite a bit to cover. We will be starting with family." He stands and moves to the blackboard, writing out the assignment as he continues to talk. "Family may sound like a topic for a fluff course, career studies or some such. But family is the concept that you must grasp before you can understand the Celts. For tomorrow, I want you all to write as much as you can about your family. How many cousins you have, how your parents met, how often your family gets together, your family traditions. In this definition of family I include your adopted family. Any group that raised you. That will provide the basis for our next class on Wednesday." He finishes writing and turns back around, absently dusting off his hands.

"For now I will force you all to speak in front of your peers. Stand up. Name, something small about yourself, why you chose this class. Oh, and Phoebe, I'd like to speak with you for a moment after class."

[[And now for some OOC OCD. Every class will either be posted around this time (5-7pm EST) or much earlier (10-12 EST) because I somehow drew the lucky straw of having all my classes fall between those times so I get to sleep in a lot. Yay me.

In every lesson, Cammie will be spewing Gaidhlig names and words left, right, and centre. I'll give the correct spelling and then the phoenetic in brackets for the sake of the muns. If it's something that requires research, I will also provide alternate spellings.

And finally, the majority of this is off the top of my very well-read head. Please don't take it as law. There are different versions, spellings, customs, ad infinitum. Alright, that's it, we'll have some fun this semester!]]

Belthazor signed in then introduced himself. "I'm Belthazor, ~~there's nothing small about me~~ I was born in San Franciso, and I'm taking this class because I liked Arthurian Traditions last semester ~~and I don't want Camulus to stuff and mount my girlfriend~~.

Welcome back, Belthazor. I hope you will be as attentive to this as you were to my last. ~~*refrains from making the obvious 'mount' pun*~~

Lyta had signed in before the monologuing began and took a seat toward the left of the classroom. As the professor spoke, his self-confidence -- or excess thereof -- exuded from him; his posturing and off-hand use of foreign languages reminded her of a Centauri in full purple. A memory of and enebriated Londo surfaced and she fought to keep a wry smile from surfacing.

She stood when required. "My name is Lyta Alexander," she said. Her mind whirled as she attempts to think of some "small" detail to tell her classmates, one that doesn't give too much away. "My...birthday is December 10th. I chose this class because, well, from what little I've learned, the culture seems interesting."

Lyta didn't add that she thinks that's where her family is from. She got the impression that would only encourage him. Having fulfilled her requirement, she seated herself once again.

"Welcome to the class, Miss Alexander," he says, in his usual I-am-your-god-kneel-before-me tone.

The tone of his voice elicited an arched brow. She cleared her throat quickly and straightened her expression. "Thank you. ~~I think.~~"

She definitely had to get some information on this guy.

Macbeth followed the lead of the other students, signing in before he stood to introduce himself, as well.
"I am Thane Macbeth of Glamis and Cawdor," he began, deciding to leave out the whole King thing. "I'm obviously new here. I'm from Scotland, th'year 1057. I joined this class mostly to learn what has become of my people, I suppose."

"Im Edward. I'm not as scary as i look. I took this class because there was some confusion last semester, so i ended up not taking Arthurian Traditions, but it still sounds very interesting and I want to know more about the Celtic culture"

((I get it now. It's the timezone difference, which makes your classes show up the next day for me :) ))

*face goes red at the whole mounting thing...* Boom Chicka Bow Wow

Phoebe waits until the last student leaves, and then she looks at Camulus expectantly. "Yes sir?"

Phoebe introduces herself. "I'm Phoebe, Professor Camulus' TA. Don't piss him off or you deal with me. Why? Because I'm his TA and I get annoyed if you make him angry because then I have to deal with him."

Phoebe says all of this with a very friendly smile.

Cole lingers as well to make sure there is no stuffing and/or mounting going on.

Camulus raises his eyebrow at the presence of Cole, as he really has no clue as to the whole mounting thing, but turns his attention to his TA.

"Yes, Phoebe, I require your assisstance in finalising my lesson plans. I had no experience of instructing prior to last semester and the results were, simply put, scattered. Perhaps you can come to my ~~lair~~ office some time this week?"

See? Totally innocuous. No stuffing or mounting of anything.

[[Why did you have to use that turn of phrase? *smacks forehead* And I hope you're feeling better. A wayward comment about outpatients or something?]]

"Very good. I only hope that you will be attentive this semester."

[[No worries. I'm not adverse to slowplaying a few aspects of class. I think I'm the only one on AST and I post lateish.]]

Camulus considers the new arrival through narrowed eyes, in no way considering him a possible new host. No, bad Camulus. No taking hosts from the student body. He wanted to keep this job.

"Excellent, Macbeth. Welcome to the class."

Phoebe nods. "Not a problem, sir, I can do that. Let me check my class schedule and I can let you know what night is best?"

[[OOC: Because when he pointed to the moose, that was what she first thought...and then the other connotations just went from there. :) You know you love me. Apparently, my BP was way too high for me. I'm doing much better today.]]

He nods. "Of course."
