Eighth walks into her classroom, followed by a handful of her brethren who quickly form up to write "Dr. Samantha Carter – Tactics of War" on the chalkboard. She sits demurely at her desk as her students file in and she stands when the bell rings.

Welcome students to The Tactics of War. It is so nice to see so many familiar faces in class today and also very nice to see some unfamiliar ones. I hope you all had a pleasant holiday break.

I am Dr. Samantha Carter, please call me Dr. Carter. As some of you know or may have guessed, I am not human but a human-form replicator, which simply put, means that I’m a machine who is more than merely sentient. As such, I have been in many battles due to various circumstances and have lived to tell the tale. Please do not worry, however, as my brethren and I mean you no harm ~~yet~~.

This semester we will be learning in this class about the theories and approaches to War Tactics. Many classes will be lecture/discussion focused and there will be a midterm and a final.

In approximately seven classes, we will be studying examples of specific (yet completely theoretical) battle situations in which you (thanks to the wonders of my technology) will be able to speak with the theoretical hero and/or villain who was there during the battle and made a key tactical decision.

I hope each and every one of you leaves this class with a bit more ingenuity and cunning and will face the crises and dark situations of your young teenage years with greater courage.

Now I have two activities for you:

One: Introduce yourselves to your classmates by telling us your name, year, and your favorite cliché during battle scenes in film and television.

Two: Fill out the following survey. I will be the only one who sees your answers, so be honest. *looks specifically at the SG teenagers* I will know if you are not.

And before I forget, my office hours are Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

"Cameron Mitchell. Present, sir." Cameron wonders what the hell a replicator is.

Looking up over her roster sheet, she stares at him for a moment longer than she should. "Oh...oh my.

Cameron looks a bit confused and wonders if it's his charming good looks.

Eighth peers at him one more time because of his charming good looks. And then reminds herself that he's probably 17 and omg, squick.

Cameron thinks it might be a bit squicky if it really were his good looks. Maybe he's got something stuck on his nose. He scratches his nose to be sure.

Callisto signed in. She did not look the least bit bouncy to be finally studying something to do with war again.

She did wonder why someone would build a robot that looked like an adult version of ~~Wrench~~ Carter.

Bridge bounces in to class and signs in.

Edward signs in, only slightly confused about the 'sentient machine' bit.

Janet walks into the classroom and stops dead when she sees who's teaching the class. She quickly pulls out her course schedule, looks at it, and promptly swears to herself that she will never, ever sign up for classes that early without caffeine again. Ever. She ignores the Replicators and takes a seat.

Then she waves at Eighth. "Janet Fraiser."

Parker waves to Janet when she comes in, and then mouths, Dr. Samantha Carter? at her, looking mildly freaked.

Janet waves to Parker and shakes her head. Sam's aunt, she mouths back. Then adds, after a short pause, Don't ask.

"Alanna Trebond, here."

Parker signs in, thoroughly weirded out but mostly hiding it. "M. Parker. We met before, ma'am."

If she doesn't look at the metal spiders, maybe they won't want to eat her....

Anakin, precisely on time, signed in.

Eighth even checks the clock. This man is a machine. ~~Or will be.~~

Draco signs in. He doesn't know what a sentient machine is but if they look like that they can't be all bad.

Sam signed in, still slightly queasy from shop class junkyard coffee. Didn't stop her from glaring, though.

Janet waved Sam over to a seat near her.

Sam took a seat near Janet, leaned over and whispered, "This seemed like such a good idea at the time."

"It did?" asked Janet, also in a whisper. "I signed up at six a.m. without caffeine."

"Everything sounds like a good idea at six a.m. without caffeine," Sam muttered, "including smothering a certain snoring anthropologist with his own pillow."

Susan signs in, letting her gaze flick across the bizarre metal spiders with a raised eyebrow.
