Sociology of Violence: 2nd Period

Welcome to class, everyone. My name is Dr. Grissom, although feel free to drop the title. With that lack of formality in mind, let's jump right in. First, please consult the roster and take a syllabus.

I've been slammed at work all day, sorry for the delay. The last two weeks I am leaving open, the official syllabi will be updated ASAP.

"Due to the often upsetting nature of this course, I would like to spend this first class having you introduce yourselves, and share, if not why you are taking this course or your history with the subject matter, what you hope to learn here. Also, if there are any subjects that might be difficult for you, please feel free to stop by after class and let me know.

Homework: Find a working definition of violence that you feel is accurate.

Sociology of the Paranormal: 6th Period

Welcome to class. I'm Grissom, and it's getting late and I need a snack and I'm cranky. Consult the roster and take a syllabus, then take a seat.

"First of all, I want to thank you all for enrolling. Considering the subject of this course, and all of our different, and shared, experiences with the paranormal, I first want to stress that I expect everyone to keep an open mind, and be respectful of your fellow students.

That being said, I'd like to have you all introduce yourselves, and if you have any specific topics you'd like to have covered in this class, I'd like to hear your input. This class will have two parts: One in which we study the paranormal and build a working vocabulary, and the second half of the semester in which we evaluate how these events affect institutions.

You will not be graded today, but I would like to encourage discussion with your fellow classmates, as you will be working together closely for the next several months."

Jake signed in and grabbed a copy of the syllabus before he went to sit down. "My name's Jake Gavin. And I like coffee."

Peeking round the door to see a few students already in the classroom, Mac wanders in collecting a syllabus. "Hi, I'm Mac. I've just transferred here, and know very little about the paranormal... which is why this class was probably a really good plan." She hazards a grin. "Strikes me that knowing that stuff might come in handy around here."

Lyta enters, offering Grissom a flash of a smile. She signs in and picks up a syllabus, then stands silently for a moment as she reviews it. Having given it a once over, she gives a nod of hello to the good professor, and moves quietly to a seat.

Hi, I'm Lana Lang. My town was hit by a freak meteor shower when I was younger and ever since then we've had problems with mutants. And, of course, being here, the paranormal is a pretty big part of our everyday lives, so I thought it would be useful to learn more about it.

"Hi, I'm John Sheppard, there are too many Johns in this school and I'm really getting tired of making this speech so everyone just calls me Shep. And I'm in this class because I've seen some seriously strange sh-" Shep comes to a grinding halt and clears his throat. "-stuff in my life," he continues with an *almost* convincingly innocent smile.

Paige signs in and takes a syllabus.

"I'm Paige Matthews," she says, she could explain why she was taking the course but seeing as her sisters, Grams and Bel would probably kill her for it she does.

Stark smiles cheerfully at Grissom as he takes a copy of the syllabus and then sits down.

"I'm Stark," is all he says when it's time to introduce himself. He never really knows what to say in these situations.

Cordelia signs in and takes a copy of the syllabus.

"Hi, I'm Cordelia Chase. I'm a new student here. I grew up on the Hellmouth, and spent a year battling demons and other fun stuff in LA, so I'm taking this course to see the sociology behind it. I've had first-hand experience with it, but haven't had the chance to focus on the background of it much."

Hearing and seeing introductions being made, Lyta follows suit, thinking that this is probably normal for the first day. She looks around her, seeing some faces, made familiar from the previous days wandering campus.

"Some of you I met earlier, but for those of you I haven't met, I'm Lyta...Alexander," she says.

Broots came in, without JC and with his clothes rather rumpled. "I'm Broots. Yes, I have a first name, no, I don't use it. Um, I don't know anything about the supernatural, I just sorta ran into it here. I was doing some stuff on my laptop and ran into some magical defenses so I'm kinda curious about that. Also, gremlins are evil."

"Hello, I'm Rose Tyler. I've seen a lot of things I never even thought about, let alone see in my life the last year, so I thought this class would be rather interesting."

Bel greeted Grissom, signed in, and took a syllabus. "I'm Belthazor," he said to the class. "And I will be your TA and rule with an iron fist, but I can be bought."

"Hi, I'm Piper Halliwell. I've seen and dealt with a lot of weird stuff at this school. Figured it'd be a good idea to learn a little more about the paranormal."

"Hi, I'm Angela Chase, I'm a junior, and I'm taking this class because we don't have paranormal stuff where I'm from and last semester I got way more hands-on experience then I wanted. It would be nice to know, like, the theory behind it."

"I'm taking this class because I hunt vampires and because," he coughs and sounds mildly embarassed, "there's one I'd like to understand a little better."

Jessica walks rather briskly into the classroom, a big smile plastered on her face as she enters. She picks up a syllabus, gently fans her face with it, and finds a seat.

"Hello everyone! My name is Jessica Tate and I would just like to say how very excited I am to be here. My family certainly has had its fare share of run ins with the paranormal, and I really can't wait to learn more about it all so I can talk more intelligenlty about such things. Such a fascinating topic of discussion I think."

Phoebe signs in for her second Grissom class of the day. She is bouncy. She is smiling. She is obviously up to something.

"I'm Phoebe Halliwell and it's no big secret that I'm a witch. With that, and the things that happened last semester, I figured that this clas would be great to take and not just so I could give Dr. Grissom sugar. Also, many of my closest friends are in this class, as well as my sisters and my boyfriend."
