Home Economics Class Sign-ups.

Good Afternoon, students of [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh!

My name is Mrs. Van De Kamp, and I am going to be chairing the Home Economics Department this year. I know that some of you may believe that Home Economics is a field of study that went out the way of the dinosaurs, but let me tell you, proper manners never go out of style.

Please sign up below, and indicate which class you would like to take. More specific details will follow at the first class meeting. And although Home Economics has traditionally been a female pursuit, I encourage both genders to sign up.

Home Economics 101
Tuesdays 9:00am-12:00pm

Home Economics 101 will be an exciting and informative overview into many areas of study. Each class will have a specific theme, like hygiene, sewing, and housecleaning. Several class projects will be assigned. We'll even learn how to knit so that you can make a sweater for yourself, your dog, even your high-powered assault rifle! For the first class, please read the introductory chapter of The American Frugal Housewife, because the theme to our class will be "Waste not, Want not."

Perfect Party Planning
Wednesdays 9:00am-12:00pm

Perfect Party Planning will dive right into the murky miasma that can result from trying to pull together that very special event. We will cover very difficult material in this class, viz: food and drink selection, seating arrangements, decorations, and dealing with the hired help. The final class project will be to host a party for their fellow students and teachers, although students will be expected to organize several other small gatherings as individuals and groups. Please come to the first class with a 100 word essay on "The Best Party I Ever Attended," and make sure to highlight what made that party special for you!

TBA: There will also be several seminars open to the entire student body throughout the year. They will be worth 1 credit hour each, if you need to make up classes. The first will be Advanced Etiquette, and will occur later this month.

Classes will begin tomorrow, and an updated roster and syllabus will be available at the first class. If you need to speak to Mrs. Van De Kamp, her office hours are posted here, feel free to stop by anytime.

*Paige takes a look at the sylabus, then says to herself I'll marry rich and get a maid

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
*Paige wants to point out this is the 21st Century, for her at least, there seem to be time issues here*

Erm what if a married a wizard? Would I still need this course then?

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
*Paige smiles* Yes I'll do that, thank you Ms Van De Kamp
*Paige thinks about how important [livejournal.com profile] pure_blooddraco seems and thinks he might like quite like someone who had some party planning skills*

I'll attend both classes and make my decision if that would be ok?

I will, thank you

I would be very interested in Perfect Party Planning, Mrs. Van de Kamp.

Ma'am? Chewbacca is leaning very heavily on me to take 101, but I'm already in cooking, and I already know how to knit from jail. Besides, you cnflict with Biology.

[identity profile] 12parseckessel.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, I got a lab partner counting on me.

Being able to tell whether the air is breathable on a new planet is a little more necessary than being able to set the table.

It was knitting or watercolors, and knitting needles were more useful in the fights. Besides, my partner sheds and we gotta do something with all the extra hair.

Please don't feel that cooking disqualifies you from Home Ec -- there's much more to running a household than cooking. I think that Mrs Van De Kamp's course will be rather more ... formal than mine. Perhaps taking both courses will help you develop a balanced approach.

*is very excited that home economics is finally offered*

I'm here to sign up for Home Economics 101. I would take Perfect Party Planning also, but it interferes with my schedule. I will definitely sign up for that next time!

*walks in*

The parrot on his sholder shrieks "Galley!"

The boy drops a note that says "HomeEc 101 please"

[identity profile] names-cotton.livejournal.com 2005-09-13 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
The parrot turned his head almost upside down and proceded to chuckle evilly.

The boy just arched his eyebrow and went off to find lodgings.

*rubs under chin, but looks as if he's protecting his neck from attack*

Will this class include any cooking?
