Creature Languages, 1/09

As the last Classics students filter out, Dream waits for most of the Creature Languages students to have taken their seats before he begins to speak again.

"Hello, and welcome to class. I hope this will be an enlightening experience for all of you. It is based on a premise that many of you may be ignorant of; all beings have a language. While humans may not be physically equipped to speak or understand them in the wild, so to speak, studying those tongues allows greater communication throughout the environment. This is especially true when it comes to animals that are feared by humans, such as snakes or spiders, and for that reason I plan to concentrate on those languages.

Before class starts, please review the class rules. I would like each of you to sign them at the bottom and turn them in to me. This will serve as our contract for the semester.

After that is done, I would like for each of you to stand and tell the class a little about yourself, including any languages you have studied before, either creature or human-based, and any particular goals for this class. In addition, I am in my office after class for any questions or concerns."

"Logan Echolls. If you've been by the girls bathroom the last few days, you should know all about him." He gave her a wicked grin.

"Oh. I think I met him on the other night up in the second floor common room. I think he was drunk. Which bathroom? I haven't seen any writing in the 5th floor one."

"First floor," Jake said, feeling very helpful. "I also-- I mean, someone went and got the guys' advice as well, in case you're curious."

Molly snickered. "I'll have to go look. Oh! Then I can go look for that professor you told me about, the one who is a superhero. I want to meet him." She was obviously very excited.

"Tick? Yeah, he's kind of hard to miss. A friend of mine TAs for him, I bet I can get her to introduce you if you want? He's not really like any other superhero I know of," Jake added, thoughtful.

"A friend? She does? You can? That would be so cool!" Molly perked up more with each question. "I've never heard of him so I really want to meet him. Does he wear a costume all the time or has his secret identity been revealed?"

"I.. don't know. Tick is Tick all the time, I think." Jake's never really thought about it. "Rory might know. Have you met her yet? She's wee and dollfaced and likes coffee."

"Rory!" Molly was very excited now. "I know Rory! I helped her move on Friday! She TAs for a superhero? Why didn't she mention that?" Molly whined the last question, but just a little.
