Professor Chaucer is kicked back in his chair with his feet up on his desk in the spiffy new office he now has. He's reading, but feel free to bring him coffee interrupt him.

Phoebe knocks politely on the door

Geoff looks up and smiles when he sees Phoebe in the doorway. "Come in, Phoebe, please. It's been quite a while since we've run into each other. What can I do for you?"

Phoebe smiles, happy to see Geoff..err, Professor Chaucer.

"I was wondering if you might have any room in your Tuesday evening poetry class for me?" She tilted her head. "Or if you offer Independent studies in your Western lit class?"

Geoff looks pleased to be asked. "Of course there's room in the poetry class, Phoebe, if you'd like to join us. I have three open spaces, in fact, and so far no one's asked to add the class. As for an independent study..."

He muses on the idea for a moment. "I hadn't really thought about it, but if you're really interested I think we could work something out."

Phoebe beams and hands him the add slip.

"Can you please sign this so I can show them that you said I could join Poetry?"

When he says that he thinks he could work something out, Phoebe again bounces. "I'm really interested, it just conflicts with my forensics class."

Geoff chuckles at her excitement and signs the add slip. "Consider yourself enrolled, Miss Halliwell." He hands the slip back and looks at Phoebe.

"I've never done anything like an independent study, but then again I'd never taught a class before coming here, so I imagine we can figure it out. Off the top of my head, I would suggest that you can do the reading assignments and...what about submitting some sort of written work? Maybe a summary essay accompanied by some sort of analysis? And we can meet periodically, depending on your class schedule, and discuss the material. Does that sound like what you had in mind? I'm open to suggestions too."

Phoebe takes the slip and smiles.

"Geoff...err, Professor Chaucer, I think your idea sounds great. We can look at our schedules and figure out when a good time to meet would be? And, can I get a copy of the reading list, please?"

He hands her a copy of the reading list (http://www.livejournal.com/users/geoff_chaucer/22374.html#cutid1). "You can get copies of all of these in the book closet in my classroom, so help yourself. I've got classes on Monday and Tuesday afternoons, and office hours pretty much all day Monday and Tuesday. Outside of that, I'm pretty flexible with my schedule. Do you want to give me call and let me know what your schedule looks like when you have everything arranged?"

Phoebe grins and starts to hug him and then steps back. "This is going to be a bit weird for me for a few days. I still see you as my friend, Geoff. It may take me a few days to get used to calling you Professor Chaucer." She nods. "As soon as I have every finalized, I'll let you know and we can make arrangements."

Geoff nods. "It's a little weird for me, too. There are several people in my classes that I consider friends, and it's been difficult to figure out where to draw that line. Here's how I see it, though. Outside of the classroom, I'm Geoff, not Professor Chaucer. You want to stop in and chat as friends, I'd welcome that. And if you want to thank me with a hug, I'd welcome that too. Unless, of course, that's too uncomfortable for you."

Phoebe smiled and gave Geoff a hugf. "Thank you."

Geoff returns the hug. "You're welcome, Phoebe. I'll make sure to check with the administration about the indepedent study, and we'll work out all the details next time we meet."
