Study Hall (12/14/2005)

After office hours, Jenny unlocked the door into Study Hall, maneuvered her containers of coffee, bagels, and cream cheese for the students, then set up her laptop and started working.

"Oh. Um, I don't know," she says. She doesn't want to say that she hadn't been listening, but she hadn't been listening.

"Alright," Cameron tilts his head and watches her for a moment. "Either I'm really boring or something's up... Is it the Koala?"

Lucky for him she remembers the word. Though she still doesn't think the word translates correctly. "What was option B? John is an idiot?"

"I think the specific term was 'twit', but yeah. What's he done now?" Normally he'd offer an ass kicking, but Aeryn can do that for herself just fine.

There's a long pause. "Something that happened months ago, but I found out about it today by accident," she says.

He really doesn't know what to make from that. "Something bad enough that it still," he halts, saying upset is probably not a good idea, "worries you?

Another long pause, because Aeryn really doesn't want to say it. "He kissed someone else. Is there a time limit on that?"

Cameron stiffens at that and tries really hard to even imagine John kissing anyone who isn't Aeryn but fails.

"No. No, there isn't. I mean, it depends on the kind of kiss and why he didn't tell you." He falters and shrugs helplessly. "But no, you've got every right to be pissed about it."

Aeryn sits back in her seat, folding her arms over her chest. "Right," she says. That makes her feel a little less crazy, if not less upset.

Oh man. First instinct is to ask who John kissed, but he's not sure if he wants to know. "Did he explain why it happened? Was it a dare or something stupid like that?"

"He was drunk. I've done stupid things for that reason, too, but I still didn't..." She takes a breath. "And if he didn't tell me about this, what else isn't he telling me?"

"Drunk can be an excuse, but not telling you was a bad move." He swallows. "Could it be that he didn't want to worry you over something stupid? I mean, he can't have been serious about," he waves a hand, "whoever he kissed."

"I thought about that," she nods. "I haven't decided if not being serious about it makes it better or worse. I don't know."

Cameron sighs. "It blows either way, but at least he had to be drunk?" He groans at himself. "Okay, that doesn't sound any better. How drunk exactly was he? Near coma?"

"I don't know," she repeats. "Sober enough to remember it. Lee and Angel were in the room, I didn't want to have the fight there."

He winces. "No, probably a good idea. Do you want to hit something? Preferably a punching bag although this constitutes as a valid reason to punch someone, I'm sure."

Aeryn shrugs. What she really wants is for this sort of thing to stop hurting. "No point," she says. "It'll be fine."

"Aeryn..." Cameron says gently, but he's not sure what he's supposed to say. Curiosity finally gets the better of him. "Who was it?"

"Lee." Which really, explained why she always thought he hated her.

"Lee?" Cameron nearly chokes and is grateful he wasn't drinking at the time. "And this happened a few months ago when he was drunk?"

"Please tell me this wasn't right after that whole incident with Parker?" Cameron begs.

Aeryn looks at him strangely, saying, "Sorry. What?"

"That whole thing where I thought I was John?" Cameron sighs and rubs the back of his neck. "I think I remember something liek that happening, but I was so drunk and I passed out and god... I'm sorry."

That catches her off guard, and she's not sure how exactly to respond to it. "It's okay," she says after a moment. It wasn't his responsibility to tell her, anyway. She'd still thought of him very much as just John's friend at the time.
