Professor Chaucer's Office Hours, Wednesday

Professor Chaucer is back, and so is his good mood. He's sitting behind his desk with his feet propped on the corner, reading. There's an empty coffee mug on the shelf with the inscription I was an English major, and all I got was this lousy coffee mug.

Feel free to drop in, the professor doesn't bite hard.

Thomasina knocks lightly on the doorframe to announce her presence. Professor? It seemed better to discuss my missed work outside of the lesson. I hope that that is agreeable to you.

"Thomasina, please come in. I appreciate you coming by to discuss the missed work. I allow one unexcused absence, so you really only have to make up the work from one class. If you can get the notes from one of your classmates, and hand in a written response to the discussion assignment -- and the writing assignment if there was one -- then you're absence for that class will be excused. I can't grade above a B for make-up work, though. So if you want to bring the grade up, you may want to do some extra credit work."

Thomasina enters the office and moves to stand in front of the desk. Her manner is poised, though one might detect a hint of sheepishness in it. Thank you, Professor. I am truly sorry for missing the lessons I did. I have been distracted lately, but I do not intend to make an excuse of that. I will be happy to ask one of my classmates for the assignments I have missed - and complete any make-up work you deem necessary in order to bring up my grade.

"Thank you, Thomasina. If you can get the make-up work in to me by the end of the week, that would be a great help. If you're interested in extra credit to raise your grade further, you can turn in a 100-word essay on either one of the books of The Odyssey that we didn't read, or else on any one of Aristophanes other plays. How does that sound to you?"

Thomasina's posture is still all that is right and correct, but it has lost a certain extra stiffness thatis more noticeable for its abscence than it was for its presence. Her tone, as she replies, is eager and a bit relieved. That all sounds most agreeable, Professor. I should think that the dealine you've set me for completing the make-up work is reasonable. She pauses for a moment, thijking, then adds, And I shall be happy to write an extra essay - Aristophanes is always a pleasure to re-read, certainly.

[OOC: For gameplay clarification: we're theoretically still having this conversation on Wednesday, last week, so, oocly, what's my deadline for posting about turning assignments in and how detailed do you want them to be?]

[ooc: I don't know that we've ever received clarification on when grades have to be posted, so I'm going on the assumption that I'll need them ready by the last class. If you can "turn in" the makeup work by the first of next week, OOC, that'll work fine. Basically, if you just say you've turned it in, you get a C. If you actually do the writing, you get a B. For the extra credit -- stating that you turn in the work raises your grade to B+, actually doing the writing raises your grade to A. Does that all make sense?]
