Office Hours - Abnormal Psychology

Jenny is sitting in a bare office, and is typing happily away on her laptop, updating herself on all the new computer technology she's been missing out on.

"You know," says Jenny lightly. "Everyone seems very hesitant in this office. Don't worry. I don't bite!"

"Good to know." Vala says, stepping in, "It's just you never know what to expect with this place... and especially this class...."

"Yeah, I've heard a bit about that," says Jenny. "Have a seat, introduce yourself. Tell me about your mother." She grins. "Actually, don't tell me about your mother. But I do want to get to know all my students."

Vala flinches slightly at the 'mother' comment, but recovers almost immediately. "Well, I'm Vala Mal Doran, and..." she heseitates over what to say next.

"And I'm really, really glad my boyfriend's TAing for you now and not for her."

Note to self, Janna: Don't bring up family around this girl.

"Nice to meet you, Vala," says Jenny, grinning at her. "And you know, I've got to agree. Drusilla was a little--quirky. And if by 'quirky' you're thinking 'completely and totally insane,' then I'm glad we agree. So what kind of experiences have you had in the class so far?"

Vala breathes a sigh of relief. "Well, yeah, that's probably the nicest way I've heard it put." She pauses to think. "Well the most memorable, and utterly humiliating experience is when she hypnotized me into something called 'erotomania'. I spent a full day completely convinced that Dean Bristow was in love with me. And I kinda stalked him... uh, very publicly.

"But at least I didn't end up trying to kill anyone because of it, which is more than I can say for some of my classmates. You can imagine how thrilled I was when she blackmailed my boyfriend into being her TA."

Jenny shakes her head and looks perplexed. "Okay, that's just weird. It sounds like you've recovered well, though with lingeringly understandable embarrassment. Love spells never turn out well."

"I've talked to Cameron," says Jenny. "It sounds like he had as difficult a time with Drusilla as you did. He's amenable to continuing on as the TA for the course, which will be a big help to me. I need someone who's familiar with the class."
