Introduction to Anthropology

Daniel smiled at the class. "Good morning," he said. "It's Friday, so I'm going to take it easy on you.

"All I'm asking:  What is mutation, and how does it affect population genetics?

Anyone?

Also, please hand in your homework from Wednesday in this tray on my desk. There's no homework tonight. Have a good weekend."

Anders signs in and spends the rest of the class wondering what would happen to the population of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol if, say, John's toaster mutated into a sentient being and developed the ability to reproduce.

Ivanova signs in and considers the question. "Well, mutation is a spontaneous . . . change of a cell. Does it affect population genetics through the founder effect? A single individual has a mutation that is then passed on and strengthed through isonomy?"

Signing in with her customary, smile, Sharon sits down at random, and channels Kitty Pryde agrees with Ivanova, and adds, "We're all mutants, to some degree."

This week, Anders was a good boy and did his homework. He turns it in on the tray on Daniel's desk, neatly stapled and with the corners of the paper clipped off cleanly.

Ivanova hands in her homework mundanely and with absolutely nothing special about it.

Bouncing over, Sharon hands in her homework.
