Hello.

First, I would like to ask that any students who are interested in taking language classes next semester complete the survey to help me decide what to offer. I'll be setting syllabi over the weekend.

Classics: Our prior work in Greek should give you a good grasp of the present, middle, indicative verb tense. It is used to show that the subject is acting so as to participate in some way in the results of the action. This means that such verbs should be translated reflexively. The form of the present, middle, indicative is exactly the same as the present, passive, indicative. So, the difference is function rather than form. The context of the passage will indicate whether the verb is middle or passive in function.

Languages of Asia: Dream plays a video demonstrating Japanese social introductions.

Please write a brief dialogue demonstrating your Japanese vocabulary for this situation.

Draco, looking highly embarassed to be seen like this in public, signs in and listens to the lecture. He doesn't take his eyes off Dream because he was too embarassed to look at anybody else.

Janet signs in and wonders who the heck the strange redhead in class is. But soon she's paying attention to the lecture, taking notes, and trying to write a chart for all the verb tenses.

Jack, sitting two seats down notices the new red-head in class. He scribbles something down on a piece of paper and tosses it to the other boy.

Draco reads the note and scribbles something on the back of it.

No, it's Draco Malfoy. I uh, turned into a redhead.

He tosses it back to Jack and shrugs at him.

Jack reads the note and writes down a response.

Look on the bright side, around here? You could be a fuzzy little fluff-ball instead.

What happened?

Jack tosses the note back to the other boy.

Anders signs in and listens to the lecture. Like Sam, he's confused by the terminology, but he takes notes as best he can and tries to make sense of everything. He figures he'll need to do some extra studying on this stuff later, at any rate.

Murphy signs in, takes his seat, and listens to the lecture.

Rory listens to the lecture, her mind wandering. She nervously eyes Dream, remembering what Bridge had said.

Noticing the expression on Rory's face, Dream stoops down near her desk and speaks to her quietly. "Bridge told me about your shared dream," he says, eyeing the healing wound on her neck. "Let me know if you wish to discuss it further."

"Oh," Rory says. "Um. Did you see it too?"

"When Bridge mentiond it to me, I looked for it. It may have been ain invastion, but he was quite concerned."

He pauses. "Class is not the place to talk about this. But if you want to stop by my office later or tomorrow, please do. I have helped other students with their dreams."

Rory nods. "Yes, sir."

Jack signs in and takes his usual seat.

Connor slips in to his sseat and listens to the lecture.

Sonia signs in and takes notes on the lecture. She's considerably more alert and rested today.

Thomasina signs her name to the class roster and takes her seat. She only gives half her attention the lecture, however; the rest of it is taken up by her thoughts on other matters.
