Speech Comm

201--Speech

We never did finish last week, so I'd like you to continue on your Boys Are Stupid speeches, but in an effort for gender equity, please also add on "and Girls have Cooties"...be sure to identify exactly what those cooties are and do.

*********************

301--Non-Verbal

So yesterday you all realize I was acting, right? Today we're going to continue the discussion of misleading body language. Have you ever misinterpreted a situation based on body language or tone that was either intentional or subconcious on the part of the sender? Misinterpretation is the word of the day, folks. Hit it, gang.

Lee looks perplexed at the professor but continues on his assignment.

D'anna flips open her notebook to the page she's been working on and writes down a note to find out what 'cooties' are, exactly.

A blush creeps over D'anna's features as she considers the subject. She takes a large drink of coffee and decides to remain silent if possible.

*hands over coffee to CJ*

*takes a seat and tries to think up an example she can actually say*

My brothers. They'd come to me, looking all nice and innocent and acting all friendly.

Then they'd grab me and throw me in the pool. Fully dressed

[Jack takes notes on how to be an annoying little brother (http://www.livejournal.com/community/fandomtownies/401787.html?thread=16249467#t16249467). For... intellectual curiosity's sake, of course.]

Elizabeth looks across at Jack, and grins.

If she knew what he was writing, she'd tell him that being the youngest sucked.

Miss Interpretation was Anya's second name choice for herself.

"People sometimes are so used to their slang and jargon, I find they often misinterpret the literal sense of anything anymore."

*Comes in and sits in the back, his computer open, ready to start. He listens to the instructions and then just sits there with a huge 'WTF did we do last week?' look on his face.

Parker grimaces. She still has her notes from assignment one, but ... she can't write this.

How Girls Have Cooties
1.
.
....
.......
1. Because boys are stupid.

Veronica tries to think of something, but for some reason her mind keeps drifting back to a certain afternoon at the Camelot motel.

Piper wanders into class and listens to the discussion.

I'm great with body language. Well, okay, human body language. On Earth. The one I come from that is.

...

...Did you know there are cultures out there who growl at you menacingly when they're happy and smile when they want you dead? Aside from humans that is.

Lindsey doesn't have anything to say about girls having cooties. Boys are stupid, yes, but that's because people in general are stupid. Maybe cooties make the girls smarter than the boys? Except for how the cooties don't actually exist. How did they end up with this speech topic, anyway?

"There were a couple hundred times I got myself into plenty of trouble by misreading my parents. You think you're safe, that they don't know what's up cos they're acting like nothing's wrong, talking to you nice and calm over breakfast or whatever and then they very calmly tell you just how very dead you are."

Hm... well, I've been occasionally misled into believing that people have bought into some lie I told... only *occasionally* though. 'Course that one time ended with me getting *shot* so...
