Journalism Class - Tuesday November 29

The pumpkin pies have been removed, the cat is looking suspiciously fat and happy and is sprawled across one end of Spider's desk with an ashtray and apparent custody of Spider's cigarettes. There's some question as to how she might be able to light them, having no lighter or opposable thumbs, but that doesn't seem to have occurred to her yet.

Spider is sprawled behind the desk, grinning a bit and prodding at his laptop. "Today's assignment is a simple and hopefully enjoyable one. You are to go to this site, read the archive and write me a short article on the content." He gestures toward the computer terminals set up at the back of the classroom where the newspaper staff generally meets. "If you don't have your own laptop, feel free to use the terminals.

"In other announcements, the curriculum for Journalism is changing next term. I'm offering Journalism 201 and Advanced Journalism right now. Photojournalism will continue as an independant study and I'm still considering whether or not to offer Journalism 101 a second time. I'm also going to utilize a little more of the Journalism Department in hopes of making this a more interactive environment and allowing my students a few more amenities for their research and presentations." Spider grimaced. "The Dean is a slave-driver."

Jake looks suspicious at first, then he brightens. "Bunnies!"

The assignment was to write an article on the content of a site named Bunny - Book of Random. The site featured comic strips. Some of these strips featured pleople that seem very (http://www.frozenreality.co.uk/comic/bunny/index.php?id=9) familiar (http://www.frozenreality.co.uk/comic/bunny/index.php?id=431). I’m also now convinced that there is a Bunthulu (http://www.frozenreality.co.uk/comic/bunny/index.php?id=27) living in the sea near my house. I also want an iBunny (http://www.frozenreality.co.uk/comic/bunny/index.php?id=31). I think I am very easily influenced by all things Bunny. I blame Logan Echolls for being such an adorable wee bunny boy.

"Thank you." Jake grinned and added in a mutter, "was so much cuter as a bunny, damn it..."

John takes a seat at one of the terminals.

Are pink bunnies cuter then white bunnies or brown bunnies? Not really. Pink bunnies are a little more psychadelic, a little more Easter oriented. Visiting this site, I find that pink bunnies are the focus. Pink bunnies in comics that are witty and funny. The comics aren't sequential, telling no one particular story but they fit together well and show the adventures of a pink bunny in comics. After visiting this site, I find myself thinking that pink bunnies are cuter as well are smarter. Garry Trudeau should really write a pink bunny character into Doonesbury.

In her regular seat, D'anna pulled her laptop from her rucksack and set to work. After a while she handed in the following:
The site seems devoted to comical comment on current Earth society and popular culture. The protagonist of the piece is a pink bunny who, given it's outlook (http://www.frozenreality.co.uk/comic/bunny/index.php?id=37) on (http://www.frozenreality.co.uk/comic/bunny/index.php?id=80) life (http://www.frozenreality.co.uk/comic/bunny/index.php?id=58), was probably once a student here.
[ooc: Yay for independent studies! Also? Player does not consider running home to dig up her copy of the bunny song. Nope. Not at all.]

Duce blinks.. not that anyone can see her eyes, but her face indicates there's definite blinkage happening. "Um. What happens to Combat Journalism? Does it go away or is it just incorporated with the other classes kinda like it is now?"

"We are indeed the Apathy Capital," Duce sighs. "No worries. We'll just haunt another of your courses and turn our combative journalistic tendencies in to you for EC."

Xander almost forgets to actually write anything, because hey - whole afternoon reading cartoons! For a grade!

This website contains a pink bunny who is also a pirate. This alone may make it the Best Website Ever, even without the Giant Bunny Bitchslap -- except no, for there is actually one level of Best Website Ever higher than pirate bunnies. Stealth Ninja Pirate Bunnies. I'll be in my bunk here for a while. Wake me when I graduate.

Angela reads through the comics, occasionally giggling, then turns in a short essay per the assignment.

[OOC: I'm sorry. Brain gone, no leave note. I'll send her to class on Friday if I need a makeup.]

Ivanova settles herself at one of the terminals and proceeded to crack up. She made a note to download the entirety of the archive to the White Star to share with Garibaldi when she went back to Babylon 5 for Christmas. She struggled through writing the essay, her handwriting decidedly shaky as she giggled over the stealth ninja pirates, and handed it in.

Jessica permits herself a slight smile as she works her way through the archives, turning in her essay at the end of class.
