Shop Class, November 22

As you walk into the Danger Room Shop, the first thing you notice is that the air is filled with the delicious smell of roasted turkey.

You then notice that Mac is cooking the turkey by hooking it up to a generator and letting the electric current do the roasting/shocking.

Also? The danger shop looks like a car repair shop.

Mac looks up from basting the turkey and points over to a very large refrigerator.

"In the refrigerator you'll find approximately 12 thawed turkeys. Your assignment today is to find a way to cook a turkey using the tools you would find here."

"I know you kids didn't sign up for Home Ec. But that's today's assignment. Now if you excuse me, I have yams roasting in a solar collector I built out back."

Sam groaned. "Of all the things to have us do..." She was going to flunk this class because she couldn't cook. She also couldn't help wondering if Janet had somehow mentioned her mishap with the turkeys (http://www.livejournal.com/community/fandomhighdorms/245314.html?thread=9111106#t9111106) to Mac in passing.

Then she wondered if she should sit this class out for everyone else's health.

Anders, hands in his pockets and a definite look of trepidation on his face, edges over toward Sam. "Does today's project worry you as much as it worries me?"

"Did you not see me trying to make cookies a few weeks ago?" Sam whispered. "You don't think we actually have to eat the turkeys we cook this way, do you?"

Anders nods worriedly. "Yeah, I remember. And I remember our discussion about blowing up ovens. This . . . cannot be good. An experiment, sure. Dinner? Definitely not."

"No, not good at all," Sam said. "Maybe we should call ahead to the clinic and warn Wilson and House?"

"I'm thinkin' that might be a very good idea," replies Anders, just as he spots Cally looking for him (http://www.livejournal.com/community/fandomhigh/384433.html?thread=18126513#t18126513). "Oop, gotta go . . . m'coach is here."

She waved him off, still looking a little concerned. "Go. Just hope really hard for me, okay?"

He nods emphatically and holds up both hands with fingers crossed. "Hopin' like hell, and that goes for both of us."

Weird. He sounded just like Colonel O'Neill when he said that. "Oh, thank god."

Relieved, she set out to make a contraption that would cook a turkey thoroughly, but that would leave it completely inedible.

She found a metal garbage can and set it on a small metal stepstool. Next, she surrounded the sides of the can with cement blocks, to hold the heat in. She filled the bottom of the garbage can with a few inches of water from the washing sink, then placed the turkey, in a foil-lined oil pan that just fit the inside of the garbage can, inside the can, lidding it tightly (and holding it in place with a couple of C-clamps).

Then she slid two hot plates (from the break/coffee area) under the garbage can and plugged them in.

Theoretically, it should steam the turkey as long as she remembered to replenish the water at regular intervals, but there was no way she was going to eat it.

[ooc: But do you have webbed toes? Because that appears to be the big question where O'Neill is concerned.]

Distracted from keeping an eye on his spit-roasting turkey, Bridge watches as Sam works on her project, idly wondering why he didn't think of doing it that way.
