To all of Shep's teachers...

Even with classes being cut short this week, Shep feels like he should probably let the profs know he's not exactly taking an extended vacation. So he sends emails from the hospital...

Dear Ms. Cregg darlin,

As I'm sure you've heard by now, there was a little accident at your birthday party, I think some of your cat-curse got spilled on me. So anyway, I'm still at the hospital in Virginia and won't be back until sometime late tomorrow afternoon. I'm gonna be on pain pills for a while, which may make me sluggish, but I plan to be back in classes when they start up next week. If you could email me any homework or classwork assignments I miss this week, I'll get caught up as soon as I can. If anyone asks, let them know that so far it doesn't look like there won't be any permanent damage, though I'll have P.T. for a while once the stitches come out. I'll be back in the dorms tomorrow night, but I'm still on enough meds that I sleep a lot, so I may not be up and around much until Thursday or Friday. Thanks.

J. Sheppard

Dear Mr. Mac,

I don't know if you've heard yet, but I was involved in a little accident at the faire this past weekend. So Dr. Wilson decided I needed to be committed to the hospital (shut up, McKay, I know you're hacked into the e-mail system and I *know* what you're thinking) for a few days. They did surgery Saturday night and I'm stuck here until tomorrow afternoon. I'm hoping to be back in classes next week, but my left hand is in a device that looks like it was created by the shop in detention mode. And it will be for probably a month or so. So, back to my original question... does the shop take voice commands? I don't want to put too much pressure on my partner to pick up my end of the work as he... well um... let's just say: don't assign us group projects that involve sharp objects any time soon, okay? If you do, assume we did it... assume we failed. But if he says anything, tell Han that this really isn't his fault and that I'm not mad. I'm hoping that when I get back to campus tomorrow that I'll feel up to finding him to tell him myself, but in case I don't, let him know for me, okay? Thanks.

Shep

Subject: And we thought it was dangerous 'out there'

If you haven't heard yet, I'm in the hospital. Believe it or not, this place sucks worse than any military hospital I've ever been in. And I've kind of gotten used to having a doctor who knows me and all the particulars of my medical history. Because, let's face it, looking at an E.R. doc and explaining that the last time I was hospitalized it was because I was being turned into a bug by a Wraith retrovirus is likely to get me a trip to a whole different part of the hospital, you know? Anyway, I'm here until tomorrow afternoon, so I won't be in any classes at all this week. I'm hoping to be back next week after the break, but that may depend on how much the pain killers knock me out. Feel free to email me any homework assignments or classwork that I miss.

Hey there. I know there's no class on Friday, which is a good thing, 'cause I'm in the hospital. I'll be coming home - home being the dorms - tomorrow afternoon and I'm hoping with everything being on haitus for a few days I'll be up and ready for class a week from Friday. But I'm on some fairly decent pain meds, and if I'm still on them then, I may be a little groggy. How groggy will determine if I even attempt to make it to classes or not. Well, that and I think I need to be cleared by the clinic staff. So anyway, feel free to email me any assignments or projects I should be working on when I'm conscious.

You just focus your energy on getting better. I heard about the sword thing, and I'll be thinking of you.

I do hope you're feeling better. Sword cuts are nasty things, and not many doctors are familiar with them nowadays. If you need anything else from the room, let me know.

I thought you'd be out at least a week

Did you know that runny noses are considered very fetching this year?

I'm afraid I have a confession to make.

I have a cat. A very small cat. I found her orphaned and about to starve to death at the Renaissance Faire. I took her home before I discovered that you were allergic.

I've washed her with a lotion that the NPC Pet Shoppe says should make her non-allergenic in no time. Could I ask you to bear with her until then? Frankly, there's nobody else in the dorm I could trust -- I wouldn't leave a gremlin in the care of Miss Parker.

P.S. Her name is Octavia.
