Shop Class

As the students walk in they find themselves in a room with several locked boxes. Around them are assorted (virtual) cleaning & gardening supplies.

"All right kids. Today's assignment is to use the supplies around you to blow the lock off the box. Each successful student will find a prize inside the box for you to take home, so don't blow it to smithereens."

((OOC: Blast will not harm students since the safety locks are on. Prizes are real and can be taken home and used at your leisure. Will not be modding the results of your explosion, so do whatever you want.

Big Thanks for Carter!mun who gave me the idea. *kicks muse for not helping sooner*))

Edward mixes some iodine and ammonia he finds in the household supplies until he gets crystals. Very carefuly he wraps the crystals in duct tape and uses them to blow the lock off of the box. The makeshift explosive does cause the box to turn a funny color, and releases a weird-colored cloud.

Edward blinks and pokes it. It kind of resembles a dead rat. When it doesn't bite him, he picks it up and frowns at it.

Cally mixes ammonia and bleach and promptly kills the whole class with the deadly fumes.

Cally simply pretends the box is a toaster, and it falls to pieces when she touches it.

Cally comes up with some sort of chemical mixture akin to a teeny little bit of napalm, and utilizes it to try and blow open the box.

When Cally's finished with her assignment, Krycek approaches her totally not wearing his mullet wig, oh god. "Hi, Cally? Could I ask you something?"

"Sure thing," Cally says, looking oddly at the mullet wig. "What can I help you with?"

Anders signs in, arranges an assortment of the products in front of him, and co-opts Bridge's thinking position again. After contemplating his options from a handstand for a few minutes, he picks out a few industrial-strength drain openers and toilet bowl cleaners, and through sheer dumb luck manages to mix up something with enough hydrochloric acid in it to melt the lock off the box.

. . . well, okay, so it didn't blow up, but the fumes are kind of noxious.

Oh noes! Will this jeopardize my cover years down the road, when I have to use that mullet wig in the very special episode of 21 Fandom Jump Street where Lee and I come back here undercover?

Rogue stares at the box, wishing she'd taken chemistry. "Okaay." She thinks hard, then picks up a bottle fo drain cleaner, noting the high lye content. She dribbles the caustic chemical on the lock, gagging at the fumes.

[[If the lock's strong, this probably won't work, but hey, lye is fun!]]

First thing, Sam opened the window for proper ventilation.

Then, humming, she mixed bleach with a few other chemical ingredients, distilled the compound down into crystals over a flame, collected the crystals, and heated them for a second time, again collecting the crystals. Then she realized she didn't have the available materials to make a blasting cap. "Well, shoot."

She put the crystals aside for later.

For her second attempt, she opened a bag of fertilizer, donned some gloves, and wrapped a handful of it up in an ammonia-soaked cleaning rag. She placed the small packet next to the lock and waited for the chemical reaction to take place.

Sam grinned evilly. She had a month to figure out how to get the ammonia smell out of the wig before she gave it to O'Neill for Christmas.

Then she looked at the little pile of explosive crystals. They appeared innocent sitting in their place on the table, but seemed somehow sad and forlorn because they weren't fulfilling their purpose in life by blowing things up.

"What do you want me to do with these crystals?" She asked Mac. "They should be stable without a detonator."

Shep digs around through the supplies until he finds a can of compressed air with a small delivery hose. He inserts the hose into the lock and then fills the rest of the space with sealant. Once the sealant is dry he pulls the trigger on the compressed air, forcing the piece of the lock to separate and pop off.

Shep grins and wonders what would happen if he put it on a string and pulled it across the cafeteria at just the right moment...

Han does some chemical shuffling, but blows the lock rather quickly. (After all, burgulary was his main profession for 4 years between 9 and 13)

Krycek, after looking at the supplies, decides to do something in depth. He feels like he could use something to get his mind off... well, everything.

Krycek begins by distilling the ammonia from the cleaning supplies, collects the salts, and combines them with the phosphate fertilizers from the gardening supplies for sulphur.

While the ammonia is distilling, Krycek takes one of the gardening tools with a wood handle and, using his zippo lighter, breaks up the handle to put it under some moist soil, lights it and lets it smolder into wood charcoal.

Taking the ammonia salts, he combines them with the sulphurous fertilizer, and the wood charcoal - creating a weak gun powder. Piling that around the lock, he leaves a trail away from the pile so it can be lit safely away from it. Lighting it with his lighter, the flame ignites the gunpowder trail and then follows it to the pile and explodes.

Bridge does a handstand and attempts to brainstorm a way to complete the assignment.

Spotting a lawnmower blade in the pile of garden supplies, he uses that to saw the lock off.

(ooc: what? chemistry is SO not my strong point!)

John stares at the box in puzzlement and absently unwraps a piece of gum.

And then he looks at the shiny wrapper. ooo! shiny!

He unwraps a few more pieces and starts chewing on them. He takes the wad out of his mouth and forms a funnel around the lock. He crumples up the tinfoily wrappers and pokes them through the lock. While that's hardening, he takes out the straw that he was chewing on before the class and resumes chewing. He thinks about this, cuts off the chewed end, and sticks the straw so that it's inside the lock. After this oral fetish, he's sniffing the cleaners. Finding one he likes, he makes a funnel out of a nearby plastic bag, and pours the chlorine product down the straw into the tinfoil filled lock. He glances at his watch, glances at the lock, pulls out a lighter, and flicks it.

*Boom!*
