Sarah has a bunch of electronic equipment spread out on the front desk, She could either be building something or taking it apart -- it could go either way.

Occasionally, she stops to throw a ball to send the puppies and kittens after it and make them stop crawling all over her looking for snuggles.

Impulsively, Beka bent and kissed Rogue on the cheek. "You're too careful for that. Besides, that kind of smile? Had to be something special."

She laid a hand over Rogue's. "So? What gives?" she asked, eyes bright with genuine happiness.

"I'm just so excited. I mean, it's not as good as being able to touch everyone all the time, but it's better than nothing." She was still grinning like mad. "I...It's been so long, you know?"

"You mean there was a time when you could? Before now?" Beka smiled. "I didn't know that. I'm extra-glad then."

"Yeah, about two years ago. Mutations don't generally materialize until puberty, though mine was a bit late. I was fifteen when it decided to kick in." She shrugs. "I think it's almost harder because I can remember back before I was like this, you know."

"Wow, yeah. That would make it hard." Beka cocked her head and studied Rogue. She brushed the hair off her cheek. "Lots of strength there. To be able to deal with that. I don't know how you do it."

She smiles and looks down. "Well, when it's choice between 'deal with it' and 'curl up in a ball and never leave your room' you'd be surpised at the motivation."

Rogue looks at Beka. "So, anything notable happen here while I was gone?"

Beka had hoped to avoid this. "Yeah. The police have accused Angelus of killing Kitty. I think it's a crock."

Rogue's mouth dropped open. "He was? And he...didn't?" She seems completely at sea, and extremely upset.

Beka put a steadying hand on her shoulder. "Apparently there's some evidence. They haven't said what. I don't believe it. Angelus is a vampire, yes. He's killed. But everything I know about him says he wouldn't kill Kitty. I don't believe it," she said again.

She frowns. "You think...he didn't?" She seems confused, conflicted. "Do they have any other suspects?"

Beka shook her head. "Angelus hasn't been convicted but there are no other suspects. The police say they have evidence. But from the fact that the police still haven't figured out what happened at Spike's, I don't have a lot of faith in them."

"Yeah, they seem a lot like a bumbling bunch of idiots." She sighs. "I just...I just want this to be over. Put Kitty to rest, you know?" She squeezes her fingers together.

Beka took both Rogue's hands in hers. "Yeah. I know. I'd like it to be over too. All of us would."

Rogue looked down at their hands, resisting every instinct she's developed telling her to pull away. "Yeah, I think everyone would be much happier if the guy was behind bars." She shook her head. "It's just hard, you know?"

"It's ugly and stupid and sad. Death always is," Beka said almost tonelessly. "I hope they stop screwing around blaming the big evil vampire just because he's a vampire and catch whoever really did it."
