For New Students - Overview of [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh Journalism Courses

Teaching Philosophy and Course Overview.

Course Information

Grading Policy

All right. Anyone can register until class ends on Monday, September 12. This gives some of you terminally late people a chance to sit in on the first actual class and see if this is something that you want to subject themselves to. Combat journalism is closed unless you can give me one hell of a convincing argument.

At midnight Monday, I'm going to give the final list to my Assistant and if you want to transfer into any Journalism class, you're going to have to make one hell of a convincing argument, in writing.

This is also the last call for permission slips. There's still a large stack in the box outside my classroom. These aren't the school forms, which I advise you to procure a large supply and my Assistant will be checking with the Administration to see that you do, but my own slips as drawn up by my lawyer. Sign where indicated, have parent, guardian or (if you're over the age of majority) two adult witnesses sign in the appropriate places and turn them in and then make a note below to confirm. My Assistant will keep track of who has and hasn't turned in their forms and if you expect me to take you so much as a an inch beyond campus boundaries without both sets of forms, it's going to be a long, boring school year.

War zones, coups, bordellos, diaster sites, political conventions, massacres, other planets, inquisitional hearings, whale riding and dinosaur farms are not available to anyone without the appropriate permissions.

... not that I'm guaranteeing as much as a trip to the nearest Long Pig for lunch without a good look at what I have to work with.

Here are the current Homework Assignments - Due Midnight 9/14/05 Late work is not accepted. No submission at all is an automatic boot from my classes and forcible ejection from any class fieldtrip or journalistic madness.

Current Student Roster

Any of my students who have to write for other classes can resubmit homework to me for extra credit as long as it meets the requirements for the homework submission for Journalism 101. That is, an essay of 100 words.

For those of you unclear on exactly what I mean by that, I mean precisely 100 words - no more, no less.

101 please dude.

Cool.

Since my dad's after me to follow in his footsteps OMG I HATE MY DAD, I should probably take Journalism 301.

That all right?

Sign me up for Journalism 301. Expounding on topics of interest has never been a problem for me.

I'd attempt flattery to get into one of your Journalism classes, but you don't seem like the type. I'm afraid I'm going to get stuck with mindless yuppies who spew forth predictable opinions based on the current trends. Forgive my frankness, but I'd rather not waste my time on something that's just your average teenybopper garbage.

I don't much do the whole school situation. However, if you don't mind a voice from off the beaten path, I'd encourage you to give me a shot. Stirring things up seems to be a specialty of mine. And I can garantee originality and an actual grasp on vocabulary and subject matter... Hopefully people will be able to keep up with the big words.

Snarky. You'll fit in just fine.

I'm Phoebe, the Assistant.

Advanced Journalism it is.

I irritate many. I consider it one of my more charming qualities.

Have you considered teaching a class on how to be an asshole? I'm sure you'd do swell.

Addendum

The Assistant will sometimes take bribes of chocolate or weapons.

*looks at the Professor*

What?

Well of course you do!

Besides, you'll probably be the one stuck with showing me how to use some of them.

Professor Jerusalem,

I would like to enrol in Journalism 301. I appreciate your consideration on this matter.

Regards,
Miss Elphaba

*awkward*

Hey. Uh.

Don't tell anyone, K? But I'm actually pretty smart. And, well... you seem kinda cool. And, uh. Well, I could use some practice writing... what for faking out the Nietzscheans and what not.

Could come in handy.

So, if the bee-- er, if the Principal approves my application, sir, I'd like to join Journalism 301.

Just, can we tell everyone my Uncle Syd made me do it?

[identity profile] valentine-tart.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I'll get the work done. *looks awkward*

*recovers by looking in her pockets for smokes* Hey, got a light?

[identity profile] valentine-tart.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 12:16 pm (UTC)(link)
*puts smoke in flame, drags*

*turns her face to the side, exhales* Thanks. See you in class.

Hi, Professor . . . Um. . . Jerusalem. I was wondering if you had an opening in the class.

100-word assignments... now that sounds like homework I can occasionally manage to turn in handle. Journalism 101, please?

[identity profile] joan-not-jane.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Sign me up for Journalism 101.

[identity profile] dbiers.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
Professor Jerusalem,

What are the requirements for photojournalism and where would one sign-up for the class? Also, is it possible to take said course if one does not need to participate in the work-study program? Lastly, would it require any permission slips other than those already listed?

[identity profile] dbiers.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Equipment - check. None of it's the latest model, but it's all in working order.

Good. I'd like to sign up.

Right. *hands over necessary paperwork*
