[Ten is not particularly thrilled with life today. He reads the news online and scowls at it.]

[muttered under his breath] They'll never find him.

[Trouble's never far, is it. He watches the video of the press conference again, then closes the window in disgust, before starting to type something in a rather determined manner.]

Beka rapped on the door to Ten's office. "Ten?"

Beka. Come in. [He doesn't look angry...just tired. And annoyed at life.]

"Thanks." Her expression made it clear this wasn't a pleasure visit. "I'll cut to the chase. I need your help."

Is this about today's news? [He pours her a cup of coffee without asking.]

Beka took the coffee thinking that at some point, she really ought to eat. "Yes and then again no. It's about me, my ship, and that fucking travel ban. Pardon my language."

[He crosses his arms and looks at her, curious.] Go on, then?

She sipped her coffee, then began again. "Whenever things get to be too much, I fly. I take my ship. Go out. Sit in front of a nebula or something beautiful. And just...am. It's the closest thing I have to god. Right now? I'm stuck here." For the barest flash of a second, she let him see the conflict in her eyes. "I need not to be."

[He watches her intently, reading her face. After a very long pause, he speaks, and his voice is softer.] What do you need from me?

"Go with me to the Dean. Tell him you believe I won't abuse the privilege. That I won't use it to help Angelus. I just need to be able to go for a little while. If it gets to be too much."

I'll do it. But you need to make an appointment. [He looks vaguely stern--guardianesque.] I care about you, Beka, but I'm not going to be on Dean Bristow's bad side because of this. Go through the proper channels and I'll do what I can.

She nodded. "Fair enough. I'll call now. And Ten? Thank you."

Beka set the coffee on his desk, retrieved her regular comm - reserving her private cell for emergencies - and called the Dean's office. (http://www.livejournal.com/users/dean_bristow/13989.html?thread=365989#t365989)

"Hello? This is Beka Valentine. I'd like to schedule an appointment to see the Dean today. I may have a teacher with me. It's about the travel ban."

After a moment, she replied, ""Thank you very much."

Then she closed the comm and turned back to Ten. "I've got an appointment. Whenever you're free."

You're welcome, Beka. [His expression softens and he smiles slightly at her, before firming up into his Going To Talk To The Dean face.] Let's go, now if possible.

"Now works." She smiled a little, then put on her best 'talking to grown-ups face' and hoped she wouldn't have to cry in front of the Dean.
