Sitting at the front of the classroom, Daniel doesn't look too happy.
"I'd like to thank Ms Halliwell for handing in her homework on Thursday, as she was the only one. Just a reminder, people. Homework is not optional.
Now, if you've talked to anyone in my other classes, you know that I'm setting midterms. For you, it's an essay."
He turns to write on the board.
Discuss the nature and functions of Roman colonialization in Italy and the Western Mediterranean in Republican and early imperial times (4th Century BC to the 2nd Century AD)
"3000 words maximum, worth 40% of your grade and due in the lesson before Thanksgiving. This is your homework this week, and I'm also willing to give over class time this week. I'll be in the classroom, so I want you to sign in as usual on Thursday, but then you may go to the library to work, or whatever.
Failure to hand this in will result in an automatic detention, unless you've spoken to me beforehand with what I consider a good excuse, or you can provide medical evidence. Also to note: I won't mark anything that comes in past that date, so odds are you'll fail this semester.
Now. Any questions?"
