At the front desk, Sarah is killing time reading "Lucifer's Hammer" and shooting a dart gun with the little rubber darts at passing students without looking. The puppies and kittens are scampering around the floor in a playful mood, looking for people to pick them up.

"She's got sea monkeys. And fish die quick sometimes. I really don't wanna explain pet death to her just yet."

"They're cute little things. I can get you two and you can name them Kara Jr and Lee Jr."

"I'd probably kill them, and that's a metaphor we don't need," Kara says, grinning.

John winces and rubs the back of his hand. "Fine, you're getting a starfish or something."

Lee thinks on this a moment and then wrinkles his nose, "But I make far cuter noises. Sugar gliders screetch a bit too much when excited."
