Abnormal Psychology (11-10-05)

The classroom looked bright and shiny, Cameron has opened some of the windows and was leaning against the desk in front of the room. As soon as everyone took a seat, he spoke up.

"Alright, listen up boys and girls. Crazy Squid Lady Professor Drusilla couldn't make it today for whatever reason crazy people have, so I'll be holding this class. I've got an assignment for you all, which I hope you will appreciate and put to good use. I'll open discussion and I hope that by the end of the class you'll all have sufficient material to write an essay on the topic."

He clapped his hands together and even despite his bad mood as of late, he grinned at everyone. "Topic today is actually our own much feared beloved teacher. I want you all to come up with one or two, or however many mental illnesses that you think she is suffering from and explain to me why. By the end of the class, you should have sufficient material to write a short essay on the topic. Extra credits for the person who comes up with the most illnesses."

"I know a lot of people are very weary of this class, so take this opportunity to relax, sit back and speak your mind." With a nod and a wave of his hand, he indicated that the floor was now open for discussions.

Wednesday signs her name neatly, somewhat impaired by the basket in one arm with the black-bunny-suited egg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v332/dhaunea/Fandom%20High/wedsegg.jpg) with its mobile of various lethal weaponry gently spinnin above it.

"Possibly simple delusion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delusion) would explain it, but I think that Sawyer might have the right idea by thinking it's a disassociative disorder." Wednesday paused, thoughtfully. "I'd be more inclined to blame it on a borderline personality disorder, myself. Especially considering her mood swings and the fact that she's really perfectly functional." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borderline_personality_disorder)

Duce regards Cameron soberly and says coldly, "We find it more interesting to speculate on why you seem to think we would be think our teacher has any mental illnesses, much less more than one. You seem to take it for granted that we as a class would indeed think that. Could you please clarify for us which aspects of her behavior you seem to think indicate mental imbalance?"

I'd suggest delusions, to explain why she talks to the doll and schizophrenia for sure, I'm not sure what else

Re: ESSAYS

[identity profile] addams-daughter.livejournal.com 2005-11-10 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Whether or not the Professor's various eccentricities are a result of delusion, disassociative disorder, borderline personality disorder or even some variant of manic depression, I feel that it's impossible for a group of abnormal psychology students to properly diagnose our professor's various mental foibles after just a handful of classes... particularly when so many of us spent at least one of those classes not properly in our right minds ourselves. I can be argued that, in a few cases, we might have gained a better understanding into how our professor thinks, but I find it interesting that she chose someone so diametrically opposed to herself to aid her with this class. That is what steers me more toward a borderline personality disorder or simple delusions as opposed to any other explanation.

On a side note, I quite enjoy our professor's mood swings. It keeps the class interesting.
