Angelus knocked on the door. "Hey teach, sorry I had to miss class last week."

"Oh, hey!" Charlie put the paper he was about to throw back down on his desk and smiled. "Come on in. And that's fine. Had to miss one myself, but Broots should have notes for you."

Angelus smirked. "You sure about that? He tends to make these high-pitched noises only I can hear whenever I walk into a room."

"He does?" Charlie blinked and gave Angelus a confused look. "Well, he should still have the notes..."

"Beats the heck out of me as to why," Angelus took a seat, the very picture of an innocent schoolboy. "Maybe he doesn't like tall guys."

That did make Charlie arc an eyebrow, but he shrugged. "If he runs away at the sight of you coming at him, I can get the notes for you, or you could ask any of the others. Callynanders had to go early -" Charlie didn't seem to realise how he'd pronounced their names. "-one of the days so they might not have the best, but any of the others should do." He leaned back, picking up the paper ball again. "So did everything go all right?"

"On my trip?" Angelus asked. "Oh yes. It was quality family time. One can't put a price on that sort of thing."

Charlie nodded at that, a little wistful. He still hadn't had the time to go home or really talk to his dad or Don, and he was missing them. He sighed a little. He'd said he'd do this though, and he would. He was a grown man, after all. "I know," he replied. "Um. About your project... I was thinking that perhaps the library would have something?"

"And me with my shiny new library card," Angelus took a notebook out to write down what Charlie suggested. "Whatcha got in mind?"

"I talked with the Dean about locker 327, and he gave me the impression that the library was quite well-stocked, so I thought you might just check out what they had under supernatural literature or fact, possibly see if they have some crossreferencing to census information, polls, and so forth for your world?"

~~In a completely platonic way. Brotherly. Yes.~~

"Any of this likely to be in Special Collections?" Angelus asked. "Because I'll need a note."

~~Considering what Angelus believes to be entirely proper ways for family to show affection, he'd agree with that assessment 100%~~

"I... have no idea. I haven't been there yet." Charlie blinked and put down the crumbled up paper, reaching out to find an un-crumbled piece of paper. "What does the note have to say? Just that I give you permission to be there?"

*snicker!* Aw, they have so much in common.

"I'll have to check," Angelus said. "Actually I'm not 100% sure I'm not still specifically banned from it. Let me swing by there tomorrow and ask. I can let you know when I see you in class."

~~They should get together over coffee and talk about how important it is to keep so many things within the family. Bonding, and all that.~~

Charlie nodded. "That would be good. ...Why would you be banned from it?"

~~At some point that needs to be a date. Bonding over families is important.~~

"Because Parker and her vicious circle decided to pre-emptively dislike me," Angelus said. "Which hurts a poor vamp's feelings to the bone, let me tell you."

~~Hey, Darla's in town...~~

*knocks at the door* Professor? A moment of your time?

Charlie waved her inside. "Certainly. What's on your mind?"

I missed both classes--not last week, but the week before--because I, um, jumped in Locker 327 for science an' my safety line broke, and I couldn't remember if I spoke to you about that.

"Oh, yeah, Broots told me about --" Charlie sat up straight, interested. "You went into locker 327? Would you mind telling me everything about it? What was it like?"

It's my understandin' that it's sent everyone who's been in so far to a different place. I wound up in Merry Olde England, far's I can tell. They were still speakin' Middle English. Firs' they thought I was French, then they thought I was crazy--an' a prostitute--an' finally they decided I was a witch.

An' may I say, the Locker has squallin' excellent timin' when it comes to extractions. I was about a minute from bein' a crispy Zero.

As far as the transit goes, I didn' really notice anythin'. One moment I was here, the next I was there. Others may've had different experiences. Since so many students seem to have been traumatised, I haven' done interviews.

Charlie scribbled down notes like crazy. "Oh, really? Do you know of any others who's been through the locker? or anyone who's done any research except you? Oh!" He looked up. "Would you like to earn some extra credits?"

I know Hank McCoy has, an' my roommate, Jubilee--Jubilation Lee. 'Cept she's been missin' again for a bit now. An' I'm sure there've been others.

...maybe. What's the catch?

Charlie wrote down the names. "Not a catch, really. I was just wondering if you'd write me a more detailed report on your experiences with the locker."

((ooc: having Zero turn in the report in one of the classes or the next office hour is entirely okay. You don't have to really write it out. *grins*))

Oh, sure. That'll be--well, a bit of an undertakin', but I'll get to work on it. I just wish I hadn' lost my video camera.

(ooc: Thanks to the time distortion issue, she was there for about two weeks, so it'd be a rather long report!)

"You had a video camera?" Charlie looked regretful at the loss as well. "Well. How long do you think it would be? Could you have it done by next Tuesday, do you think? You don't have to go into detail on the French prostitute witch thing," he added.

Sure, I'll get it t'you by then. Swerval.

Sam knocked on the door. She hasn't had time to change yet, so her jeans were still covered in lawnmower motor grease and her shirt was torn by the hem. "Hi, Professor Eppes. Are you feeling better?"

"Well, I'm no longer dragging a blanket around like an overgrown toddler, so yes." Charlie grinned. "Thanks for asking."

"I'm glad," she said, a bit confused by the blanket remark but she decided not to ask, taking a seat to wait for Janet and John.

John arrives a few moments later, slipping in beside Sam.

"Hey. Your habit of being early makes me look bad," John laughs.

~~"Twenty years in the military doesn't go away overnight."~~ "Sorry," Sam answered, smiling. "I came right from the Doctor's office hours, so it was on my way."

Janet walked in, having finally managed to escape from the library, and sat down with a sigh of relief. "Finally. No more book cataloguing."

Charlie beamed at the three of them. "So! What have you done so far?"

Sam glanced quickly at Janet, then John. This wasn't going to be pretty. I'm sorry, we haven't done anything didn't tend to go over well.

"To be honest sir, we've only really talked about the subject. Schedules have been a bit wild."

Charlie stopped beaming and frowned instead. "You do understand that you're going to have to do more work, not less being an independent study group, right?"

John nods. "Yes, sir. And I think the three of us have been thinking about the subject and maybe even making notes but we've yet to meet and really start brainstorming. I promise that will change."

Sam nodded emphatically. "Yes, sir. I've been working on equations in my spare time, but I'm not sure if I'm heading in the right direction."

She reached down and pulled out a battered notebook. The first ten pages were full of equations.

Janet looked over at Sam, relieved.

'I'm sorry, I'm far, far behind my genius best friend in physics and I've been trying desperately to catch up in my spare time' didn't cut it as an excuse either.

"We need to set up a regular time to meet," said Janet.

Charlie snatched the notebook, smile spreading on his face as he read through it. "This is good," he nodded. "You might want to have a look at deBenedictis and Das (http://arxiv.org/abs/gr-qc/0009072) work on the topic as well." He handed the notebook back, and regarded them thoughtfully. "Do you think you could manage to write weekly progress reports?"

Sam took her notebook and made notes in the margins to check into the theories of deBenedictis and Das before the next time they met.

Oy. Paperwork. "I'm sure we could do that. Is there a format you'd prefer?"

Charlie shook his head. "Not as long as it's clear that you've been working, when and what you've been working on." He frowned. "I think the same report can be given to the Doctor, but I haven't checked with him on that."
