Upon entering the Danger ~~Room~~ Shop, The classroom finds it transformed into a metal scrap yard.

Mac sits on the remains of a car seat tossing a medium size pumpkin in the air.

"Now that we got the emitters back in order, it's time to put some of your fabrication skills to work. Today I want you to start work on an apparatus that will fling a pumpkin. It can be a catapult, trebuchet, cannon, giant slingshot... whatever you want."

Mac motions to the scrap yard around him.

"Only catch is? You can use the parts you found from the junkyard behind me. You have full use of the shop tools to build whatever it is you plan to build. You have class today to plan and build. On Thursday we'll test out your new creations."

"We have open shop this afternoon, and I'll have open shop tomorrow for those who want to use that time to work on their project. If you guys want to do this in groups or on your own, it's up to you."

"Thursday morning? We make a mess."

So, as your new Shop TA, I'm gonna team up with you on this whole pumpkin chucker idea. You got any ideas?

New Shop TA? *grins and hugs Cally again, then pulls back when he realizes it might be kinda awkward to celebrate* Don't go fixin' up my grades or anything now, coach. *kisses her on the nose*

As for the pumpkin chucker . . . *waves the crankshaft* Was thinking of something we can hand-crank up to speed. Just don't know how we'd work a release mechanism.

Nope, no grade fixing. I don't even think I'm doing grading-type things, actually.

So, hand cranked what, exactly? Are we goin' for a catapult, a trebuchet, a ballista, cannon? Specifics, champ. Gotta give me somethin' to work with.

Good. Don't want you to get in trouble for that, or even suspected of it or anything. *kisses her nose again*

And I have no idea what any of that stuff is. *ponders a moment* A ballista, I guess?

Well, how are we trying to fling it? Like, just a big lob, or firing it like a crossbow, or shoot it like a gun? The ballista could work, though... and the handcrank fits into that, so... good idea.

[ooc: *runs away to real class for 2 hours, eek*]

I don't know. I was thinking of some sort of wheel-like thing to build momentum up, you know, crank it in circles faster and faster, but that might get kind of too complicated and lords know what direction the pumpkin'd end up going. I guess we should try and do more of a launch thing with it instead.

[OOC: Yep -- last fling with online fun before lunch, and then the evil hard grind after that because my COMPANY EMAIL IS STILL DEAD, GRR.]

Yeah, accuracy would be kinda wonky... So, how about we use the crank shaft, and use it to crank back a cable attached to a proper bendy bar thing, kinda like a ballista, but instead of pointy doom, we're launching a poor innocent pumpkin.

Okay, maybe I should draw this out rather than talk it out. That sounded funny.

Drawing it out sounds good. I've got graph paper, even. Without corners.

*nods and rests his chin on Cally's shoulder*

Right... *takes some of Anders' proper no-corners graph paper and begins sketching the plan, basically a big pumpkin-firing slingshot/ballista deal*

That make sense?

*nods, even though he's not entirely sure he knows what he's doing*

Looks good to me, coach. *licks Cally's ear surreptitiously*

*smiles*

Right, so... we're gonna need some cable, a hook with a fast release, plenty of metal for the frame... maybe a winch, if we can find one. Might work better than the hand crank.

*nods and takes mental notes* Right, right. I'll get to work on gathering those. Winch might definitely be better.

*heads over and starts picking through stuff*

*sets down her sketch, and goes to help Anders scrounge up the neccessary materials, which they find, yays*

Okay, now just gotta but them together.

Right. Put 'em together. *nods, but just hugs Cally first*
