Padme's Office Hours

In her office, Padme can be found preparing the lessons for the following day. She bites her pen as she looks over the papers, her coffee machine, ever brewing.

Anakin poked his head into the office, eyes twinkling with good humor. "Hi!" he said. "Do anything interesting this weekend?"

"Not really. Just cleaned up a bit, unplugged the phone and relaxed. You?"

'Logan's thing on Saturday," he said. "Other than that nothing special."

He sat down in a chair. "It was very interesting to see the Chancellor again. Did he enjoy his time with our class?"

Padme failed to mention she snuck about on town for no real reason other than principle.

"I think he brought a lot to the class. Hoepfully some of the more 'interesting' element of the class got something out of it."

Anakin was certainly not going to ask if she might have been one of the curfew breakers he had heard about on the radio. Nor would he have checked on her through the Force to make sure she was safe. Because that would be slightly creepy.

"That you can go far in politics without being completely evil, you mean?" Anakin smiled. "For a politician, the Chancellor's not half bad."

Padme frowned a little. "He's a different man than he was senator. He was a lot more... approachable then."

Anakin's eyebrows quirked. "Really? Pressures of the job, I suppose." His eyes looked into Padme's. "And aren't you two on different sides of some major issues right now? Maybe he's letting it get a little personal."

"I suppose. I wasn't the easiest person to get along with when I was queen at some points. But then, I'd like anyone to be cheerful with the Trade Federation with a blaster to your throat with the things I had to wear on my head."

"No, I don't think that's it. He just seems so distant now."

"Yeah, when I was little, after I found out about the whole 'switching places' thing, I was sure you were hiding so your neck wouldn't collapse under the weight of some of those headdresses."

His brow furrowed. "The Chancellor has never been anything but kind to me, but I'll try to pay closer attention the next time we meet. Your instincts are good about these sort of things."

He shifted his his chair. "On to other subjects. There's another Jedi in town now. One from our timeline."

"That wasn't the reason, but one of the major benefits... right after not getting killed."

"I'll try as well. I don't see him nearly as often as you do. He's certainly taken a liking to you."

"Really. Anyone I know?"

"And I'm a big fan of the not getting you killed thing." Anakin smiled gently.

He ran a hand through his hair as he thought about her next statement. "Yeah. He noticed me way back on Naboo. I didn't notice for a while that he isn't like that with all the Temple Padawans. I've never really given it that much thought, really."

"Did you know Aayla? Twi'lek? Padawan to Master Quinlan Vos? She's just been raised a Jedi, apparently. Or at least this Aayla is." Anakin looked down at the ground. "I don't think she's particularly fond of me."

"Really, I think there should be a club for that."

"Well, I haven't shown much attention to other padawans, so I suppose I'm guilty, too."

"No, the name isn't familiar."

"I'd be first in line to set it up, too, but I think the Dean might give me Looks about it."

He shrugged. "Not even the Masters pay attention to all of the Padawans. I certainly wouldn't expect the Senators to." He blushed a little. "I'd be more than happy to spread some of the attention I get around. If I can keep yours all to myself, of course."

"I just wanted to let you know, in case you run into a Twi'lek at the Perk or anything. She'll probably recognize you."
