Late morning Sunday into afternoon: Journalism classroom - working on the newspaper

It's Sunday afternoon. Beka's got two articles to write, plus notes for a special project. She still needs statements from people about the Master/slave project, and more gossip is always welcome.

Though she's working, and tonight is the bonfire for Kitty, she's in, if not a good mood, certainly not a bad one. Her laptop if open, her Flexis beside it on the desk. She's got a pen between her teeth and might not notice right away if you come in.

From time to time she glances at the clock to make sure she's not late for the bonfire, or maybe for some other reason, but it's definitely not because she's waiting for anything in particular.

There's plenty of coffee, and fresh NPC Krispy Kremes she picked up on the way in from Logan's this morning, for anyone who drops by.



[ooc: mun is, in fact, working on Beka's articles as well as her own work, including NaNo. Anyone who wants to come by is welcome, whatever the reason. I've set this up so that those who were willing to give comments or might have new gossip as of last night can stop by and give IC delivery of the info.]

Veronica stops by to drop off her article and sees Beka working.

"Hey, what's up?"

"Hey, V. Just working on the gossip column and the Master/slave article."

She gestured toward the donuts and coffee. "Want? Take. Eat, please. Spare me the calories. Also, if you have a statement on the Ethics assignment, I'll love you forever."

Veronica pours herself some coffee and takes half a donut.

"What kind of statement? and don't you already love me forever *pout*"

"Only half? You're killing me, V." Beka shook her head mournfully, then heaved a melodramatic sigh.

"The article is about the purpose of the assignment. And how people reacted to it or what they learned. So, you know. Whatever, really."

Veronica shrugs.

"I learned that it's a lot harder to be responsible for another person than I thought it would be. Gave me a new appreciation for what my dad has done over the years."

Beka quickly typed V's statement into her notes.

"Thanks. Mind if I use that for the article?"

Deciding to take Beka up on her earlier offer (http://www.livejournal.com/community/fandomhighdorms/244912.html?thread=9103536#t9103536), Lily stops by the journalism room and knocks on the door frame.

A knock on the doorframe pulled Beka's attention from the gossip column. She looked up to notice Lily, looking not nearly so happy as she had the last time they talked. "Hey, you. C'mon in. Coffee's hot, donuts are fresh."

"Thanks," she says, slowly walking across the room. She glances at the food but isn't really hungry, so she takes a seat near Beka. "I'm not interrupting you or anything, am I?"

Beka glanced up at Lily, took the pen from her teeth and set it down. She turned her chair away from her computer, toward Lily and crossed her legs at the ankles. "No. You're not. If I say come see me? It means come see me." She smiled encouragingly.

Lily relaxed noticeably and attempted to return Beka's smile. "Thanks."

She took a deep breath, wondering how to get into this, and exactly how much she wanted to share. She decided to start with the obvious. "Boys are dumb."

Beka put up her hand. "Hold on, wait." She made a big show of opening a new file and typing.

Then she spun the computer around. It read, in large type:



Then she gave Lily a wry grin, clearly trying to cheer her rather than mock her. "Boys have been dumb since...forever. What did this particular boy do? Maybe I can add it to the article."

Lily laughed, hard and long - she needed that.

With a sigh, she began to explain carefully. "I was looking for Draco last night - I hadn't seen him around all day, so I stopped by his room and talked to his roommate. Draco came back while we were talking, and," Lily looked around and lowered her voice, "he looked like hell - he looked... bad - injured. And he and Jonathan kept trying to tell me that I was overreacting when I got upset. And then... I tried to explain why, as his girlfriend, I was worried about him, and they got mad at me, and said some... private things, but the main point is that he's been lying to me from day one - about... stuff," she finished lamely.

Beka smiled, glad to hear Lily laughing.

"They got mad at you? How is it any of Jonathon's business?" Beka might've sounded angry, but she tried to keep her voice soothing, for Lily's sake. "And, if he's been lying to you, where does he get off being mad at you?" She shook her head. "Boys are dumb, and stupid, and idiotic, and...emo."

"Well, Jonathan knew about everything that Draco had been lying to me about," Lily said, exasperated. "I think Draco was probably just mad that he got caught, and that I wouldn't fall for his lame excuses. 'I was playing with my uncles - they always try to set me on fire.' I mean, please!" Lily throws her hands up in the air.

"Seriously not cool," Beka said after a long moment. "Jonathon knows things you don't. Sweetheart, I hate to tell you this, but they're probably fucking like bunnies. Even so, he should've walked away and let you and Draco talk."

Beka stood to fetch herself another cup of coffee. "You sure you don't want anything?" She didn't wait for an answer, but continued speaking over her shoulder. "The excuse, as stupid as it sounds, could be true. I've experienced...things."

"I probably should - haven't eaten since dinner last night," Lily admits, embarrassed that she let herself get so upset by the situation. "A donut would be great, thanks."

"Yeah, so it felt like the two of them were just ganging up on me. I couldn't take on both of them at the same time. I know that deep down, but I'm totally in denial. Also, I think that's kind of hot. He apologized before I left, and I said I wasn't mad anymore, but I'm not sure that's entirely true."

"Help yourself, hon," Beka said. "There are plenty."

When she strolled back from the coffee pot, she seated herself atop a desk near Lily. "If you're angry, definitely don't pretend you're not. And as hot as it would be to write DP with Jonathon and Draco, I just don't think you're ready for that yet maybe try talking to Jonathon. He should know better than to interfere like that. He's a psych specialist."

Lily reached for a donut and took a bite.

"That's the thing - I don't want to be angry, but what he did and the way he handled was just not right. Not fair." She paused for a moment. "And it hurt."

"I don't know if talking to Jonathan would help or hurt right now - we weren't exactly at BFF status before the fight anyway..."

Beka sipped her coffee thoughtfully. "I'm not sure what to tell you. If it were me, I'd probably call him out on it, then get into a physical fight. But somehow, and don't take this wrong, you don't seem the type."

She sighed. "Jonathon...he's so odd. I'm not sure I can help you there at all."

[Wandering around campus out of boredom, Chiana notices Beka and decides to stop in and say hi.]

"Hey Chi," she smiled. "Working on my column and that article. C'mon in if you want. Donuts are free for the taking."

::laughs:: Sorry I couldn't be more...entertaining this week. Not that, ya know, I'm *trying* to get in your column every week. Except I so totally am

::comes in and grabs a donut, then pauses:: Wait. Article. Why am I thinkin' I was...was supposed to do somethin' for that?

Beka laughed. "Chi, you're always entertaining. And, don't worry, you'll make the column. wouldn't be a column without you!"

She took a sip of coffee which her mun so needed because of omg threads of doom sorry! "Yeah. I'm writing something on the Ethics Assignment. Thought you might want to give a statement about what you learned from it."

::thinks:: Well, it...it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Could be because I kinda... whadya call it? Cheekind out? I gave Rory the least amount of...of orders necessary for us both to pass. But even that... it was way too easy for me to...to act like a master. Which is... is scarey when those're the kinda beings I've been runnin' from my...my whole life, ya know? But the way we did it was more like...like takin' care of a kid, which I think maybe was what the teach wanted.

But you were right when...when you said it was important. Even if nobody had gone through with it. I'd like to think maybe...maybe seeing the way me and Stark freaked, or the way Callisto and Logan rebelled (which was frelling awesome), or the way you and...and Buffy have...whatever it is you have now, that it's good for anybody who hasn't, you know, been through what we have, to see it.

And now I'm thinking that that's maybe more than...than you needed. ::laughs:: You...you don't have to say all that, just, ya know, what'll work in your article.
