Duncan looks around at the gathered students. "It's been a terrible week, I know. I thought about giving you guys a break, but sometimes activity helps as much as anything." He smiles slightly. "So in the interest of doing something, we're going to go over urban safety today. I realize that you have experience and that I might go too much over basics. We'll start with those and move on with questions. Self defense drills after that." He makes eye contact with whomever he can. "One thing I want clear right now. The student in question was not entirely a lost lamb either. It's clear that the town is not entirely harmless. So if you run into something, you run for help. You don't stay and fight alone, no matter how capable you are, because you possibly dead without warning others doesn't do a damn bit of good. Be smart."
"If you're going to be out at night, travel in a group. Be aware of your surroundings, and pay particular attention to possible ambush places such as stairways, alleyways, and bushes. If you're on public transport, don't read or doze. Stay alert. If someone begins to follow you, go to a public place. Now obviously those are the extreme basics. So basic that we forget to do them. I want you to remember."
"Second point, easy to forget. Precautions are like checking your door to be sure it's locked. It doesn't mean you need to spend all your time scared. Precautions make you stronger, less of a target."
"Some of you have more experience than others in knowing if you're being followed. Any of you are welcome to speak up. I think that's a good place to start."
...
After the discussion is ended, he'll set self defense drills, checking to see which students need work where.
