A/V Technical Theatre Club Meeting: OPEN MIC NIGHT

The setup isn't fancy. The stage curtains are closed. There's a single microphone set up on the stage apron and a single spotlight trained on the curtain just behind it. At the back of the theatre are tables of refreshments: carafes of coffee and cocoa and mulled cider and hot water - and the tea bags and sugar and cream and lemon to go with, platters of cookies and brownies and meringues, bowls of chips and pretzels and candy, baskets of fruit. On the doors to the theatre are a pair of signs: a simple sign-up sheet for people who want to take part in the event and a large and colorful sign advertising its existance. There are a bunch more of these posted all around the school. Scooter stands just inside the door, waiting to greet people as they show up.

[OOC: This post will be open for play for at least the next 24 hours, even if it only covers four hours of Wednesday evening. Have fun, ok?]

Boone pauses for a moment, then shrugs and jots down his name.

Tara signs up, glad to see there's hardly anyone here. Performing is hard enough without people actually watching.

Sing! Dance! Read your poetry(or someone else's)! Recite a dramatic monologue! Tell jokes!

Nervously, Tara steps up to the mike.

She licks her lips a few times, taking some deep breaths, before she begins to sing. Her voice is a clear, pure soprano. The tune is a cheeky folk ballad, the story of Halfling Dan (http://sallyodgers.50megs.com/lalsdan.htm).

You know I could cry
If I broke the barriers in my mind and eyes.

But All I’m doing is lying and lying and
Just shut up and lie down
Hypocrite,
I must be schizophrenic.
I was talking to myself.

Scream into your own ears
Because no one hears
You don’t even hear
And it’s your throat that’s rupturing!

I’m screaming at my own soul
But it won’t listen.

My mind and my body are pulling apart
And I’m floating on smog
In an industrial wasteland.

Dear self,
I love and I loathe you and I’m satisfied/satiated/ but not emancipated, you Fool.

I kept chewing gum and just ended up with cavities.
And since I can’t speak, no one listened to me.

Applaud. Heckle. Whisper to your neighbor.

Eat, drink and be merry, yo! Or, y'know, conspire. You could do both.

*peers in the door, wishing she had her guitar*

Boone nodded in greeting, "Hey."

Hi. How's it goin'?

"Hey, Zero. Going to join us tonight?" Scooter's glad to see another face he knows.

*shifts from foot to foot* I'd feel...naked without my guitar.

"Well, wanna stick around? I bet somebody'll come along with a guitar. Or you could maybe borrow one from the music department?" Scooter isn't pushing, really, just trying to solve what seems to him to be an entirely surmountable problem. His smile reflects this, entirely.

I dunno, I guess so. *glances around* Wow, I'd've thought this'd be more popular. People must be worried.

"Yeah, I thought it would be, too," Scooter agrees. "But maybe people are hurrying to get stuff done before curfew? Or maybe they are worried. Maybe they think this is more real."

Maybe they're chicken. I'll see what I can do about findin' a guitar, yeah?

"Yeah, that'd be great." Scooter grins. "Though, y'know, chicken's not necessarily an insult around here what with the uzi-toting one."

That's true. Never want to piss off a chicken with an Uzi. I'll probably be back later, yeah?

"Never want to piss off a chicken, period, in my experience," Scooter smiles, thinking of the vengeance Gonzo's chicken friends have wreaked when they felt he was out of line, "But, yeah, ok, we'll be happy to see you whenever you get back."

That thing you wanna say that you know isn't in character? Let it all out here.

Timeline wise, Tara's showing up at 5 and out of here just before 8pm.
