Death and Dying and Deviance (11/2)

Death and Dying

Please sit down and we will begin our midterm exam. As you may remember, I want you to analyze a Darwin Awards Winner or Honorable Mention. Please drop off your one allowed note card so that I may review them when you leave.

You have no homework for the weekend.

Sociology of Deviance

Discussion: Last week I asked you to find an example of positive deviance. Please name your example, and explain why you chose it.

Your midterm exam will be next week. Here is a study guide for you to review.

I have assigned you study partners:
[livejournal.com profile] notsouledyet / [livejournal.com profile] addams_daughter
[livejournal.com profile] other_logan / [livejournal.com profile] suzotchka / [livejournal.com profile] demonbelthazor

ALL CLASSES:
The following students will get detention this week if they don't show up today, as they missed two in a row. Add/Drop has occurred, so unless your character can come up with a realistic excuse as to why they skipped, they are so getting detention. I'm arbitrary like that.
[livejournal.com profile] other_logan, [livejournal.com profile] demonbelthazor, [livejournal.com profile] actingltcrumpet, AND [livejournal.com profile] cyloninyourhead and [livejournal.com profile] sumeragi_13 if they are still in the game. Which... I have no idea.

And you didn't even pair me with him because you are cruel and now I shall sulk even more!

My example of positive deviance is charisma, which is defined by German sociologist Max Weber as a certain quality of an individual personality, by virtue of which he is 'set apart' from ordinary people and treated as endowed with supernatural, superhuman, or at least specifically exceptional powers or qualities. These are such as are not accessible to the ordinary person, but are regarded as of divine origin or as exemplary, and on the basis of them the individual concerned is treated as a leader.

I choose it because I like anything that can give you power it's one of the three forms of authority and I have an interest in leadership.

[OOC: [livejournal.com profile] actingltcrumpet has some sort of plot going on that features him having disappeared from Fandom for a while and then reappeared with no memory or understanding of where he was. I'm pretty sure he hasn't even been found and brought into the clinic yet. *shrug*]

Actually, I think the Mun just stopped playing him - dropped out of a couple of storylines without warning.
