Everyday Skills, Friday 2nd Period

Ever the picture of professionalism, Oz sat with his feet up on the desk reading the latest SkyMall magazine as he waited for his class to finish arriving, there was probably something in there he could use in a future class.

"There you all are," he said when he finally put the magazine down. "Morning all, for those of you I haven't seen before, I'm Oz, and I assure you that any story you may have heard about me are complete exaggerations. Well, maybe not all of them. Anyway, this class is Everyday Skills, and like the description on the sign up forms said I consider this class to be a life skills primer, covering some of the basics that everyone should know, you know, the kind of things that you'll need even after you've graduated, so we'll be covering a range of topics, like cooking, forgery, job interviews, bomb diffusion, sewing and mending, safe-cracking, to name a few."

Oz had a slightly different definition of life skills to most people.

"Now, I'm sure you're all sick of introductions by this point, but one of the most important skills you can have is to make a good first impression, so we're still going to do them, I want your names, classes, and one example of what you think an everyday skill is, whether you have it or not."

"Also I need a TA so if you think you're up for it come and see me after class."

[Have at it.]

Peter's eyes scanned the paper with all of Locke's attention to legal detail.

"Are some of these terms negotiable?" he asked.

"Oh, no, of course not. That's a vital part of being a TA," Peter said. "I'm just talking about some of these... and these... and..."

And then he was marking up circles. "...and bears," he finished.

"And I retain the right to charge overtime pay for any work done from 8 PM to 6 AM," Peter said. "Not that I expect to need it, of course."

He'd been in Oz's class for a while. He figured it might come up.

Having tweaked the contract waiver form to his liking, Peter signed it, then passed it over. "Then thank you for the opportunity, Oz."
