Superheroing 101, Thursday, Period 4

To say that Billy had been excited about this class would be a major understatement. He'd been looking forward to being in a class about superheroing from the moment he'd signed up for it, so he hadn't been all that surprised when he was one of the first ones in the classroom.

When the period started, and there was no sign of their teacher, he tried not to look restless, glancing around to see if anyone else was watching the clock. When it became clear that their teacher was not going to arrive, something in Billy snapped, and he grabbed his notebook and stood up, determined to salvage something from this afternoon.

"Uh, hi," he said nervously. Now that he was actually looking at everyone, he didn't entirely know what to say. "I don't know about you guys, but it seems like kind of a waste to have come here just to turn around and leave, but obviously we shouldn't just sit here if our teacher's not going to come and, you know, teach us. So, uh, how about this: I'll write down everyone's name, and grade, and something you want Ms. Electroclash and the rest of us to know about you and/or your abilities, and I'll leave a note for her and then we can just, like, go. If we don't do it now, she might make us do the introduction thing next week--" assuming she showed up then "--so we could just get it out of the way now so we can actually learn something next time." Right? Right.

"Um, I'll go ahead and start. I'm Billy Kaplan, I'm a sophomore, and I can actually do quite a few things, but my favorite one of them at the moment is being able to fly." It meant he'd be able to get out of here faster if he felt like he was going to pass out from embarrassment. "Who wants to go next?"

"Sam LaCroix, senior and..." Well, Sam had a bit of a decision to make here. Did he want to reveal a little about himself or just lie and hope for the best? "...I can see and talk to ghosts."

Well, it wasn't a lie and it wasn't the complete truth but it was something.

"Lex Luthor, junior, and..." he didn't have any powers that he knew about yet, and he wasn't sure that 'my dad is really rich' counted as an ability. "...my hair is invisible."

What, like anyone was actually going to touch his head to find out?

Kate slanted a look at Sam as he introduced himself, and took a similar half-truth tactic. "Kate, I'm a junior," she told them. "I can do some magic." Nice and vague. "And hold my own with a sword."

It was close enough to the truth.

"My name is Raven, and I am a senior," Raven said when her turn came. "I am an empath and a healer, and I am also able to teleport. I have been told that I am a superhero in other worlds."

Paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanicking maybe just a little.

Her head voice wasn't any help. "In this class out of curiosity, mostly. It's not exactly a superpower, but it's what I've got?"

"I'm Karla, I'm a junior, and I have Craft, which most people here call magic," Karla answered when it was her turn. "I also have some training with weapons: knives, swords, and a bit with guns."

"I'm Luke Castellan, and I'm a junior," he started. "And I can teleport, make things appear out of thin air, am damn good with a sword and I can lie and steal very well. Oh and I can fly depending on what shoes I'm wearing that day."

"Squall Leonhart. Senior. I am a trained soldier, proficient in several different weapons. Magic beings called Guardian Forces have gifted me with the ability to cast magic and enhanced my strength, speed, and other attributes to superhuman levels."

And had a robotic suit of armor. Possibly alcoholism.

"I'm Elphaba Thropp," she introduced. "I have some magical talent, though right now that's limited to fire and moving things through my will. And even those can be a bit unpredictable."

Eventually she'd get to flying brooms and accidentally mutating monkeys!
