Tropes and Scope [final, period 3]

"I'm glad to see everyone back in one piece," Belle said warmly, holding a stack of packets from the front of the room. "And your final today, because of the...hectic nature of the last few weeks, will be brief. I want you to sift through these packets, which contain descriptions of the tropes and trends we've studied for the last semester. And I want you to find what you think your life, to now, has been representative of. What type of genre is it? Needless to say, I think all our stories became a little more...adventure-like last week, but maybe your story is a romance, or a bit sci-fi, or...well, I hope it's not horror. Define the major players, and the types of characters that are represented. And where do you fit in? Are you a intelligent woman who doesn't fit in at home, for instance? Do you know any badasses who aren't evil?"

Belle smiled. "Those are all people in my story, but that's something for another day. For now, just write down your answers, and you can go. You've been a wonderful, wonderful class."

. . . that sound you just heard? Was every story genre in the world fighting for a piece of Gabrielle's life story claim. Every. Single. One.

The seven and a half pages of overly descriptive (trending toward horrifying purple prose in places) essay she turned in at the end of the period backed that up.

Billy thought about his friends and realized he was going to have to write small if he didn't want to take up a ton of pages with his story. He limited his tale to just his parents and the experiences he'd had as a Young Avenger, and he still managed to have a sore hand by the time he was over.

Rilla rather overstated her own heroism as a Single Mother During Wartime, and made her one dance with Kenneth Ford much more romantic than she secretly believed him to think it was, but she had a good time writing her essay.

She had a flair for writing, even if she didn't have much of a head for academics.

Elphaba thought very hard. It was one of her particular issues that her world had already been diluted and simplified into a story for children, and this seemed vaguely similar.

Eventually, she did write down a pretty decent, thoughtful essay on what tropes her world seemed to relate to. Though it was particularly biased thanks to Elphaba's own views.

Ryan considered herself a tragic figure whose life would end before it really began. She compared her plight to the Ill girl who carried on bravely in the face of certain death.

Okay, maybe she was being a bit too honest. But after the last week, Ryan figured that there might be worse things to face than death.

Hanna wrote an essay about how her life somewhat resembled the tropes found in teen dramas, complete with relationship issues. Her life was also a bit like a mystery as well. She vaguely mentioned how there was mystery surrounding herself and her friends without revealing the whole 'A' thing.

Richie wrote about his lack of a family (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ParentalAbandonment) and growing up in foster care. And his life of (mostly) petty crime. And then about how he'd found Mac and Tessa (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/LikeASonToMe) as a result of the life of crime.
