Creative Arts, Monday 2

"You've been a great class this semester," Steve said, "and I'm so glad to see all of you back safe and sound presumably." There was a plate of Christmas cookies and a choice of coffee or milk available on a table to the side of the room, and he gestured to it as he said, "Please, help yourselves to the refreshments. Your assignment is then to write a short essay about which of the styles of art you liked best this semester, and why, and something you learned about art. You may begin."

Scully looked around, sleepy but happy to see so many people back.

Cassidy wrote a two page essay and never picked one form of art over another.

Miley wrote a one-page essay. And then drew a picture.

What? It was art!

Scully's was wide-ranging, about two pages, referencing modern and classical art, and then came down to:

Art is said to hold the mirror up to nature; if so, then it's not just nature as a physical reality, but the nature of the artist, and the people around them. Truth is intrinsically beautiful, even if it's an ugly truth. Being able to recognize a reality laid bare is one of the comforts of art.

To Freddie, overworker extraordinaire, a 'short essay' became a three page paper written about how he'd enjoyed all the different types of art and how he planned to try and incorporate some of those influences into the iCarly webshow.

Billy wrote his essay about getting to work with clay, because it had been really fun to have something concrete at the end.

George's essay was short, and halting. The type of art she liked best was abstract, because then you could just feel onto the canvas and it ended up however you wanted it to, and nobody could say you had done it wrong.

As for what she learned about art, it was that she actually liked expressing things. Which she may never admit in so many words ever again (ever).

Tony was there. And not, you know, still nothing'd. One day he'd get Heroes Reborned, though. So it was just practice for then.

Annie is going to CRY ALL THE TEARS that she missed a final. ALL OF THEM.
