Basic Strategy, Monday, Period 4

"It's good to see all of you again," Tyrion stressed. "Anyhow, this should be finals week, but I doubt any of us quite have the stomach for an exam. I know I don't. We were lucky and -- some of us -- brave, and that's why we're still here."

He paused for a moment, pacing. "We're going to have a conversation today. My question is this: Knowing what you know now, what would you have done differently from the start of the Nothing? I would have begun the retreat to Special Collections far earlier and based operations there."

He pointed into the front row. "Your turn."

Dolf had found himself on the lawn very early that morning, and while he'd changed his clothes before class, he still smelled faintly of grass.

So he would be keeping his head down a little.

Strategically speaking, what would you have done differently to fight the Nothing? Pinging messily off each other is encouraged.

"Maybe if we'd noticed earlier, realised the little things all over did connect up," Kate suggested. "Or at least acted on it the second we did. It seemed like it must have been going for a while."

"I think it was," Tyrion affirmed. "Some of it is that a lot of us aren't in close contact with home, so it took us some time to notice things were odd, and then more time to realize it wasn't just us. From now on, we should assume it's never just us."

"I think I can safely say that's the lesson I took from this." So maybe she should stop ignoring calls from Greg from time to time.

... Yeah.

"It's not that weird to not be able to get hold of people from my home," she admitted. "Electric and phones get knocked out all the time. Post is unreliable at best... I'm still not completely sure it hit there."

"Perhaps in the future we should keep a warning system," Lucrezia suggested. "Or a place to compile information that something has gone amiss, no matter how trivial. It might help in pattern-seeking."

"I'd've started looking into what made Special Collections a safe haven," Claudia said. "And see if that could be implemented over larger sections of the island, at the very least."

"It would have helped if we'd figured out that Sepcial Collections was safe earlier in the week, but good idea."

"I would've never gone to Caritas. Oh, and I would've stocked up on ice cream way sooner," Kenzi said. "Also, not let Karla have a horse." What the hell, Karla.

"Or if we let her have one, not let her get into an argument with Kitty over it," Tyrion added. "How would you transport the ice cream and keep it from melting?"

"Cooler! With dry ice. One with those little wheels on it." Kenzi grinned. "And next time, have a gun while I'm at it too."

"And how would you have used the gun?" All Tyrion knew about them was the weekend when he'd been an assassin. It was a tool, like a sword, but struck him as dangerous in another way because it was so much easier to use without thought.

"I would have stopped them from taking Tino-- wait." Kenzi frowned. "That probably wouldn't have worked then. Damnit. Maybe just when they were attacking all at once then, I guess."

"I chose to go home and be with my family," Lucrezia said. "I thought that if we were all to ... disappear, I should rather be with my loved ones as it happened than risk never seeing them again. It was not perhaps the wisest move strategically, from a survival standpoint, but I do not believe I would choose differently knowing the risks."

Tyrion was listening to the students' ideas carefully, and jotting down a few of them. He was sorry to see the class end; it had been a good group, and he only hoped he'd served them well.

Kate was likely looking a little... drained. A weekend involving very little sleep, pouring a chunk of her power into the school forcefield, running from dragons and killing zombies had taken its toll and she'd have liked nothing more than to sleep for a couple of days.

However she was here, and would be able to talk to anyone who wanted her.

Simon is missing this final class as he is still at hooome, checking up on everything and grinning like a lunatic at his girlfriend who doesn't even know anything was ever wrong!

I'm going to say it has to be and abuse the heck out of same-day shipping fees.

It's not 8 p.m. on the 24th. We're good.

I have to spend this weekend with my in-laws celebrating Hanukkah, so I don't even get this weekend to shop. Fffffffffff.
