Study Hall -- Tuesday, November 1st

Sarah's desk is empty save for a huge stack of papers and a plastic cauldron full of leftover candy. Sarah is nowhere to be seen, although occasionally strange growling noises can be heard from both her office down the hall and under the study hall desk.

Lana comes in. "Hi guys, how are you doing?"

Paige smiles "hey Lana, I'm good. Just trying to do some homework Geoff, sorry Professor Chaucer set us."

Lana winces. "Ooh, that's got to be awkward."

"It's actually suprising ok, I-I even offered to T.A for him, I'm not really sure what got into me to be honest, I just know what he's like, he could use someone to help him out a bit and I mean knowing him as wellas I do I figured we'd work well together. Only I've not told James yet," she says smiling when she says his name

"How do you think James will take it? I mean, I know you guys have an open relationship and all, but he's got to be aware of how you feel about Geoff."

"I'm not sure really I mean it wouldn't mean anything me T.Aing for him, so I think he'd be ok."

She lowers her voice a little "he told me he loved me yesterday."

"James?" Lana leans in a little closer. "What did you say?"

"well I freaked out a little bit for reasons I can't really go into, but then I calmed down and told I him loved him too, only I didn't say the words exactly, after what happened with Geoff I just couldn't get the l word out."

Lana nods, "I can imagine. Was he okay with you not exactly saying the words?"

"Yeah he was, he knew what I meant anyway and he knows I love him, it's just well not exactly what I had planned you know, we were meant to be casual and taking things slow , I think maybe the halloween ball got to us a little, our costumes matched! Totally by chance but, yeah we matched!"

Lana laughs. "Really?" That is so neat. I started to go to the Ball. I got there and signed in and everything, but then... I don't know. I just felt so overwhelmed with everything that had happened that I just went home and curled up in bed."

"Yeah we were like a knight and a princess it was kinda sickening really but I totally loved being his damsel!, but I can understand what you mean about being overwhelmed, it was pretty amazing. We left early ourselves, I think James was a little freaked by the ghosts that were laughing at us."

"Ghosts? Really? I mean, like *real* ghosts? How cool!" Lana looks intrigued. "Though I suppose actually running *into* one would completely freak me out."

"yep actual ghosts that we laughing at us because we were kissing, so we went into the library and another ghost started shouting at us, I mean to be honest I wasn't all that bothered myself, but yeah I figured we should leave beofre James' got more worried about it."

"It sounds nice." Lana sounds a bit wistful. "I probably shouldn't have been such a wimp and should have just gone in. The gardens looked so lovely, too. Oh well." Something triggered a thought and Lana drifts off into a little reverie for a moment.

"Oh yeah the gardens were amazing, we sat out on the veranda, it was beautiful" she says vaguely aware Lana isn't really listening

Lana realizes she missed Paige's response. "I'm sorry," she says flushing a little, "I just, kind of spaced off for a minute there." She still has a little half smile there as if remembering something particularly nice.

Paige smiles "go anywhere nice?"

Lana blushes again, "Well... I don't..." She stops and collects herself for a minute. "Actually, yes." she says softly.

She cocks her head "do you want to tell me or should I just shut up and go back to pretending I'm doing work."

"Oh Paige..." Lana moves in a little closer, not really wanting to be overheard. "I... something kind of happened yesterday, and you know me, I'm all overanalyzing it to death."

She takes a deep breath. "I stopped by the greenhouse yesterday. With Gandalf leaving I had to find a new course so I added gardening with Professor Quayle. I went over Saturday to plant my bulbs so I wasn't too far behind. And yesterday when I went over... well... he was there and there was just this, sort of, electric feeling between us."

She goes on hurriedly, "I know, he's my professor and he's much older than I am and it's probably all in my head anyway, but... it just felt really nice, you know?"

Paige smiles "yeah I know totally what you mean and as for the age thing well I can't really comment on that with the whole Geoff thing can I?"

Lana laughs, "No, I guess not. Anyway... I think just with everything that's gone on I'm probably just, I don't know, projecting things into it. But you know," she looks very serious. "I haven't felt as much at home as I did in that greenhouse in a long time - maybe because it reminds me of helping out in Nell's greenhouse when I was younger. But he said I was welcome to go by anytime and I'm going to take him up on it. In fact, I think I'm going to head over this afternoon."

Paige smiles "see now I knew you were a girl of action! You should do that, then just see what happens. So you're taking gardening? Me too."

"Really?" Lana grins in excitement "Oh, that's wonderful! I just signed up because I'd seen some of his gardens before and it met at a good time. But if you're going to be in it too, oh that's just great!"

She makes a little face. "I don't know how much of a girl of action I am, but regardless of anything else, I felt at home working in the greenhouse and I haven't really felt at home anywhere here before, so..." She shrugs.
