Study Hall -- Tuesday, November 1st

Sarah's desk is empty save for a huge stack of papers and a plastic cauldron full of leftover candy. Sarah is nowhere to be seen, although occasionally strange growling noises can be heard from both her office down the hall and under the study hall desk.

Anders just laughs. "I don't get it. I mean, why? That, and this thing in the paper?" He scratches his head. "Is it really that cute?"

"I wouldn't say cute because I'm a guy and all." John shrugs. "You two get along very well. It's a good personality match and seeing you two happy does make other people happy."

"Oh." Anders puts his chin in his hands and stares vaguely off toward the front of the room, a smile spreading slowly across his face. "Well, I guess it's a good thing if it makes other people as happy as me."

John grabs a piece of paper from his backpack, balls it up, and throws it at Anders. "You're such a goober. How's the pyramid training going?"

Anders watches the paper ball bounce off his head and fly a few seats away. "Training's okay. Not so great without a partner, though. What's a goober?"

"I'm surprised you haven't taught Cally how to play yet," John says. "Or even Bridge. I bet they'd learn fast. And a goober's such a nickname for a mushy gushy person."

Anders wads up another piece of paper and chucks it back at John. "Cally wants to play, but she's got classes the same time that I practice. And Bridge is definitely interested ABC OT3 OMG but it's kinda hard to track him down sometimes."

He glances around the room. "Man, it's quiet today. Everyone still recovering from the creepy mansion or something?"

The piece of paper hits John on the cheek before plunking to the floor. John kicks it at Anders' shin.

"Oh God, that mansion was creepy. Did anything freaky happen to you guys?"

Anders tries to play hackysack with the piece of paper but fails. "Uh. Yeah. We nearly got eaten by the plants. Me and Cally, and Bridge, and Lee and Kara."

"Plant? They came to life?" John shakes his head in disbelief. "How'd you get out of that one?"

Anders chuckles abashedly. "Who knows? Maybe they got mad 'cause we were about to start fighting again. Or 'cause me and Cally were swiping food. Anyway, this freaky pale bald guy came in and scolded it like it was a pet, and it just let us go. We pretty much left right after that, though. What happened to you?"

John laughs and wrings his hands together. "What didn't happen? At first, Vala, Cam, Aeryn, and me went exploring. Aeryn pulled me into one of the bedrooms where the bed start massaging me. Also, and I didn't see this, a ghost was with me, trying to you...you know, do seduce me. Pissed Aeryn off so much that she dragged me off the bed and out of the room. After that, Vala, Cam, Jack Harkess, Susan Ivanova, and myself had a tea party in the dungeon with the ghost." John shakes his head and rubs his temple. "Freakiest Halloween ever."

Anders's eyebrows are getting closer and closer to liftoff all through the story. "Your Earth holidays? You can keep 'em."

John shrugs. "Christmas ain't so bad. I think you and Cally will really like that one."

"Yeah? What's that one all about?"

"Christmas is in about two months. The American tradition is to give and receive gifts from loved ones. We have Santa Claus, who's a fat, jolly guy who deliver the presents and stuff to the kids of the world. You'll have to make your own judgements on Santa Claus though. Don't wanna break a heart before you get a chance to know who he is. Mostly its a time to be together and be happy and stuff. There are religious reasons but I don't know them very well and I don't want to say something wrong." John takes a deep breath. "It's a fun time."

"Sounds like fun," agrees Anders. "Gonna have to figure out a way to be less broke by then. I've got about fifteen things I'd love to get her." He frowns for a moment, then starts grinning again. "D'you know she spent the last of her money to buy me candy? Cutest thing ever."

"Candy huh?" John can't help grinning too. "Is Bridge's lock not spitting gumballs anymore?"

"Well, yeah it is. But she got me, like, chocolate and lollipops and stuff, a whole bag of it. She's trying to corrupt me, I swear."

"Or fatten you up," John laughs. "Make you unattractive to anyone's eyes but hers." John looks thoughtful. "It's a good plan."

Anders just gives him a weird look. "How is that gonna happen when I have to stay in shape for Pyramid? And a good plan for what?"

"Anders, which would you choose? Exercising for Pyramid or staying in bed with Cally?" He raises his eyebrows knowingly. "And fattening a guy up. It's a girlfriend's ultimate plan for keeping their man."

"I . . . huh." Anders scratches his chin thoughtfully. "I do kinda have a hard time making myself get up and go running in the morning. But on the other hand, I kinda get a kick out of her watching me work out . . ."

With a laugh, John asks, "When does she get to use your first name?"

Anders glares playfully and tosses a gumball. "I think my brain might break if she did. I can't believe it made it into the paper, either. How the frak did anyone find out about that?"
