Cultural Understanding, Monday.

"So there's been some... strange things going on here lately," Alistair attempted. He'd heard nothing of the kind from home, but then home was a bit busy with all the darkspawn and everything... "So we thought we'd focus on something that might help you all if we find ourselves in another crisis. Medicine! Heaaaaaling people."

"You are so incredibly strange sometimes that I don't know where to begin," Morrigan said, pinching the bridge of her nose. "In most of Thedas, healing is the realm of mages and the Circle, which can make it difficult to access for the average villager. Sometimes the local Chantry will have a Sister or a Brother that has learned some herblore, but it's more likely there's a family somewhere nearby where the matriarch is a midwife - and occasionally gets accused of witchcraft."

"Brewing a healing potion isn't a crime," Alistair retorted. "Not that I don't think the Chantry goes just a little overboard in its pursuit of witches, especially if someone has a wart and happens to live in a shack and might have looked at someone oddly once. But in Denerim, you don't have to go that far to get a potion or two."

"'Tis true, herbalism is not illegal, but the Chantry is not especially tolerant of those who live in shacks and look at people oddly," Morrigan agreed cheerfully. "'Tis good to hear that in cities the potions are easier to come by, but that serves to highlight the disconnect between the rural areas and their more monied cousins."

"Many of you are from realms without magic. How, then, does your healing happen?"

"Herbs or poultices or something?" Alistair piped in. Not that he knew a lot about medicine. "A bandage is a bandage either way - but if it's not, tell us."

Warren... probably wasn't up to being in class today. Not yet, not really. But at the same time, there was only so much hiding away and being miserable that he could do before he felt the need to be... functional. At least a little bit.

He was quiet today, though. He could fill books with the things that he knew about medicine and healing, being the mutant former-heir to a now non-existent pharmaceutical company. But actually talking about it...?

Not right now. No way, not right now. He sank down in his seat a little more, mostly just hoping to get through today's class unnoticed.

Raven really didn't want to be in class, either, but she forced herself into routine to try to distract her from dark thoughts and worries. She still kept herself tightly locked down and shielded, however.

"Many of Azarath were skilled in magical healing," Raven quietly offered up. "I alone have the ability to draw the pains and injuries of others into myself to heal them, however."

Mercy was quiet. Very, very quiet. And very well-behaved. Very, very well-behaved.

"There is a Healer caste of witches," Karla explained, a little subdued. "We use Craft to Heal the physical wounds and illnesses of the people. Others have training to use herbalism and chirurgeon's skills to help, but only Healers have the power to use Craft. Black Widows have the power to Heal the minds of others as well, and are well-schooled in the uses of poisons."

"Magic cannot do miracles, not even in Oz," Elphaba said. "Magical healing is just as good as proper bandages and normal medical treatment, in the end."

If she seemed distracted... well, she was.
