Cultural Understanding, Monday.

"Hello, everyone," Alistair said, waving at the class. "No lecture for you today. But we do have an incredibly important assignment. A test of your cunning... and will."

"Not to mention creativity," Morrigan continued crisply. "It has come to our attention that there is some sort of pagent festival being put on by the local player-house."

"So get your singing and dancing shoes on," Alistair chirped, then paused. "...That sounded better in my head somehow..."

"You may either audition alone, or with a group of classmates," Morrigan offered. "Since it is a cultural exchange, you may use class time today to work on your offering."

She was being helpful. Really.

"You can actually audition at the playhouse," Alistair said, trying not to give Morrigan the side-eye, "Or you can just show us something next week."

There isn't much of one, but it's important!

No, you can't just sleep or leave early.

Work on an audition piece, grab a friend to share your humiliation and plot together, etc. You WILL need to perform next week in class if you choose not to audition at the Boards.

They're around!

Yes, your teachers have to either audition or perform next week too. Don't worry.

Simon looked pretty horrified, honestly.

On the other hand, this was distarcting him nicely from the ~~handwavy~~ weekend he'd just spent at home, where things were decidedly Not Okay.

Firekeeper... mostly looked confused. She understood 'festival', but what did 'pageant' mean?

Ben facepalmed. Somehow he didn't think racing podracers was exactly the festive event his teachers were looking for.

Which left...singing. How did the words for "What Do You Get a Wookiee for Christmas" go again?

Just a note, if anyone is looking to go the audition route- We'll be extending our auditions so that they're not only this Wednesday, but also Sunday as well. :)

Warren frowned a little. Well. It wasn't that he didn't know the traditions and all. Christmas was something that he and his father had at least recognized, after all. But actually starting up traditions required something like a functional father-son relationship that had been missing for years.

"I am possibly the worst person to ask," Morrigan pointed out, "- given my upbringing, but it is my understanding that it is a performance. Unlike a play, it does not have one story, but is many stories or dances or songs, all performed by different people."

"Both Alistair and I must participate as well, either by auditioning at the Boards or performing for all of you in class next week."

Aaaand my laptop just died, making it a lot harder for me to switch accounts (I'm borrowing someone else's). If anyone needs Alistair, just ping talk to the teachers and poke me here.

*whines about cheap-ass laptops*

"Wolves," Firekeeper said slowly, crossing her arms over her chest. "Do not have such. Winter is not for celebrating, is for sleeping."

Mercy Thompson

"This is ridiculous," Mercy said grumpily. She had been relieved to discover she hadn't been outed as a coyote on the radio, but she'd still have to face her roommate at some point, so she wasn't in the best of moods to begin with.

Mercy looked at Blysse and sighed. "Great, huh? Bran used to make us all perform some Friday nights, but I thought I was done with all that here."

Billy Kaplan

Billy hadn't had any intention of auditioning for the pageant - what would he do, sing The Dreidel Song? - so he might have looked a bit panicked at the assignment.

"I do not mind seeing plays," Firekeeper admitted. Actually, she rather liked them. And she'd even had a very minor role in one in Fandom once. "But I do not think I can do what this one requires."

Petra West

Petra hadn't been planning on auditioning for the pageant, but...she guessed she could sing something.

Just not any of the songs that had been on Boyz Will B Boyz's Christmas album. That was asking for trouble.

"Maybe we could figure out something to do together," Mercy suggested.

Mercy managed a small smile for Billy. "So... I guess we have some stuff to talk about later."

Elphaba Thropp

"We could pretend nothing happened at all?" Billy said, even though he was kind of dying of curiosity about the whole weetiny furry animal thing. "It was a weird weekend, that kind of stuff is sometimes better left undiscussed."

"It's... I actually have permission to talk about it now as long as I'm careful," Mercy said. "And I probably should have said something before. It's just... different."

"Different? Here? I can't believe that," Billy teased. "I'd love to hear whatever you can tell me, but I'm not going to press you if there's stuff you can't say."

She laughed a little sheepishly. "Yeah, I know. Here nothing's strange. But back home we had it drummed into us that we could never tell anyone."

"Look, tonight ~~the mun's on her way to bed~~ I think I just need to crash, so I'm so tired. But maybe... tomorrow? I can grab take-out or something and we can talk about it?"

"I understand that more than you might think," Billy said, thinking about all the things he had to hide from his parents. "Tomorrow would be great ~~since mmmm bedtime~~. We can talk about whatever you'd like."

"Yes," Simon agreed without even thinking about it.

He didn't like performing, no.

"Great," Mercy said with some relief. "Chinese, okay?"

"Have you ever had to do any kind of talent show kind of thing?" she asked.

"Chinese is always okay," Billy said with a laugh.

"Excellent," Mercy said with a smile. "I'll have it all ready for us there."
