"I'd like to start by apologizing for last week," Steve said to his class this week. "I was called away on emergency business." Because the universe's reaction to his retirement some weeks seemed to be 'care to bet?' "We're going to to do this week what I'd intended to do this week. It's related to today's holiday,Halloween, so I'm sorry you won't get any extra lead time to refine your work, but on the bright side you get to use it right away. You see, on Halloween, people wear costumes to deceive the spirits, although most people would tell you it's just for the fun of pretending to be someone else for a day. And with costumes you get masks. So we have a variety of undecorated masks today, along with materials to decorate them with--paint, feathers, sequins and rhinestones...basically if you don't see something you need, ask me and we'll see if I can't find it in the supply closet, but I think I covered all the bases. So, you can decorate these to go with your costumes, or decorate them to be your costume, and then once they dry you're good to go for tonight's parties and trick-or-treating.

"If you don't want to make a mask, there's another station for face painting, with some designs and tutorials to help you along. Please do not mix materials from the two stations; you could poison yourself or at least get a nasty rash. And...that's it. Have fun, and happy Halloween. Oh, and I have a bowl of candy at my desk for anyone who wants some."

Think about what you're going to do, eye the candy, etc.

Work on a mask. Or work on your own face. Actually there's no reason you can't do both, but painting the parts of your face that go under the mask might be counterproductive.

Bod wasn't sure what exactly he was making a mask of but it was colorful and there were feathers and glitter involved. He knew that, as soon as he finished, he'd have to take a picture and send it to Kate so she could see this...artwork of his.

"Oh!" Rapunzel exclaimed as she glanced over. "That's pretty!" It didn't occur to her to ask what it was, since pretty was enough!

"Is it?" Bod asked, unsure about his artistic skills. "I'm not even sure what it's supposed to be other than...a lot of things thrown together in an attempt to make them work."

[Sorry for the late, long day at two jobs]

"It has glitter!" That may have been the most important part for Rapunzel.

[Not a problem! I hope you're having a relaxing time now!]

"You enjoy glitter?" Bod asked, smiling over at her. "I'm not sure whether I like it or not. It tends to get everywhere and stays there for weeks on end."

"Weeeeeeelllll..." Rapunzel's face grew a bit sheepish. "It is very sparkly." And she liked sparkly things!

"There's absolutely nothing wrong with liking sparkly things," Bod said, smiling at her. "I've never been one for things that sparkle but I think I can learn to like them. Are you going to add glitter to your mask?"

Actually, that was a good question. Rapunzel unconsciously bit her lip as she considered it (again). "I don't know? I'm trying to decide if they might detract from the sequins..." Also sparkly!

"You can't use both but in moderation?" Bod asked curiously. "I don't think sequins will detract from glitter and vice versa. Perhaps they'll even complement each other."

"You really think so?" Because it was very tempting, Rapunzel had to admit. She just didn't want to go overboard?

But if someone else thought it might work...!

"I definitely think so," Bod decided, nodding. "As long as you use equal amounts of both, they should set the other off and make it a veritable sparkly spotlight."

"Maybe you're right!" And with his endorsement, Rapunzel was totally willing to give it a shot! She grinned and began considering appropriate glitter colors.

Ohmygosh! There were sequins! They were so sparkly!

Rapunzel had a huge pile in various colors in front of her, and was cheerfully sketching out plans for where to put what colors on the mask that she'd selected.

Quinn was used to putting on makeup, so she figured the face paint was her better bet. She gave herself a heart on one cheek and a rainbow on the other, then called it good.

Billy's mask probably had far more glitter than was necessary, but he wasn't getting it all over the place, at least? Well, except for his hands, but he could wash it off there, eventually.

Freddie actually rather liked this class activity. His mask, however, was a lot on the silly side. Like someone crossed a bunny with a butterfly.

Once he pings in.

Tony was totally there and totally already in his Iron Fist (http://www.arune.com/images/IronFistCvr06.jpg) costume. As you do when your world made all other Marvel universes cry and give up on trying to figure stuff out.

Steve had to stare for a moment before he found words, and even then they were hard to come by. "Tony, what do you think you're--" No, try again. "Tony. Why are you dressed up like Danny--" wait that was no good either. "Is that an Iron Fist costume?"

"Yes it is," Tony replied, looking down at it. "Isn't it cool?"

"It's...something," Steve said. "I mean. Yes. Yes, it's cool." A pause, then he asked, "Can I take a picture?" Danny would get a huge kick out of this.

"...wait, you actually know him?" STOP MAKING THINGS UP, MR. ROGERS.

"Yes?" Steve said.

Tony paused for a moment before being forced to ask, "Can you get his autograph for me? And for Rhodey."

Steve just had to. Stare. Some more. "Seriously?" Danny?

"Danny Rand? The actor, right?" BREAK YOUR MIND.

"Actor?" Buh? "Danny's an actor where you're from?" Hahahahahahaha oh god.

"Well, yeah. Rhodey and I dressed up as Iron Fist and Power Man last year."

INTERRACIAL DUOS FOR THE WIN.

"...is Power Man an actor, too?"

"Well, a character in the movies. But the guy who plays him is." And bad ass.

Sweet Christmas.

Sweet Christmas, indeed. Steve's brain hurt a little. "You come from an interesting reality."

"Do I want to know?"
